Cooperative Extension holding public sessions From staff reports ' Chowan County Coopera tive Extension is supporting a listening session at the Ver non James Center in Plym outh on Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. N.C. Cooperative Exten sion Service Director Joe Zublena will be in atten dance at each session to update participants on prog ress and to engage in discus sion about the organization’s future. As the North Carolina BY REBECCA BUNCH Staff Writer * Twelve local residents became the first graduates of the new Citizens Police Academy during a gradua tion ceremony held Dee. 5 at die Public Safety Center. Each graduate received a certificate of comple tion and a monogrammed badge in recognition of their achievement The Citizens Police Acad emy was developed by. Edenton Police Chief Jay Fortenbery. During the ceremony, Fortenbery talked about the different classes that were part of the academy’s training program and what students learned during the various sessions. > Topics included an over view of the police depart ment and how it operates as well as patrol techniques, investigation and narcotics, use of force and laws gov erning juvenile offenders, among others. Fortenbery added that while the topics they dis cussed were of a serious nature that did not stop par ticipants from etyoying the course. • “We had fun, we had a good time,” Fortenbery said.
