BY REGGIE PONDER
Editor
A permit application for the
Timbermill Wind Energy Project
proposed in Chowan and Per
quimans coimties confirms that
t he Weyerhauser Company is by
far the largest landowner in the
Chowan side of the project, with
1,870 acres involved.
The bulk of the proposed wind
energy generation facility would
be located in Perquimans.
Another large participating
landowner in Chowan is Adrien
Smith Jr. and Sons Inc, which is
listed in the application as hav
ing more than 1,200 acres in the
proposed project.
Chowan Board of Commis

partner in Adrien Smith Jr. and
Sons Inc. Smith has been ad

ters and has indicated he does
not plan to participate in votes
or discussions of such matters.
Timbermill Wind LLC, a divi

Apex Clean Energy, last month
filed an application for a condi
tional use permit for a wind en
ergy generation facility in Chow
an and Perquimans County.
The proposed project is de
signed for 300 megawatts of gen
eration capacity.
The portion of the project
located in Chowan is slated to
consist of up to 48 wind turbine
generators with a maximum
tower height of up to 394 feet,
according to the application.
The conditional use permit
will require a quasi-judicial hear
ing before the Chowan County
Board of Commissioners.
The application includes re
ports prepared for Apex that
