ARRESTS
■ Oct 26 - TYacy Alan Jemigan, 43, of
Filbert’s Creek Apts., was arrested on one
misdemeanor count of shoplifting at Food
lion and one count of failure to appear.
■ Oct 22 - David Harlin Culbreth, 63,
of Elliott Street was charged with one
misdemeanor count of failure to appear.
■ Oct 18 - Jah'lil Menyata Cooper, 24,
of Chowan Court, was arrested on two
misdemeanor count of ir\jury to personal
property.
INCIDENTS
■ Oct 27 - Ir\jury to real property and
discharging a firearm into an occupied
dwelling on Morris Circle.
■ Oct 25 - Breaking and entering and
larceny from a motor vehicle on South
Broad Street.
■ Oct 25 - Breaking and entering and
larceny from a motor vehicle on Virginia
Road.
■ Oct 21 - Ii\jury to personal property
on McMullen Avenue.
■ Oct 18 - Assault on North Broad
Street
■ Oct 18 - Larceny on Coke Avenue.

■ Oct. 25 - Thomas Kevin Byrum, 31, of
Surfside Drive, was arrested on one felony
count of breaking and entering, one felony
count of larceny and one felony count of
possession of stolen property.
INCIDENTS
■ Oct 25 - Burglary (forcible entry) and
larceny from buildings on Hickory Fork
Road.
First responders honored for service, involvement

Seven awards were pre
sented to first responders
in the community on Oct
27 during the 46th annual
Appreciation Banquet for
Chowan County Emergency
Services.
The banquet sponsored
by the American Legion Ed
ward G. Bond Post 40 Fam
ily, took place at the Legion
before a crowd of honorees,
family and friends.
Tim Dannelly, pastor of
Hobbsville Baptist Church
and a motivational speak
er, served as the keynote
speaker for the evening.
In introducing Dannelly,
Chowan County Clerk Mike
McArthur said, “Tim is a
talented guy. I'm proud to
know him, I'm proud to call
him my friend.'’
Dannelly urged those at
tending the dinner to follow
the example set by the eve
ning’s honorees and make
the best use of their time
by giving back to the com
munity.

said. “Folks, I’m here tonight
to tell you tonight whether
you’re young or old, this is
your time. You can focus on
your troubles, or you can fo
cus on your blessings.”
Dannelly encouraged the
audience to remember in
contemplating giving back
that they are where they are
today because somebody
sometime believed in them
and let them know it.
“I'm telling you tonight,
you are somebody because
somebody invested in you,”
he said.
The first award of the eve
ning was the Chowan-Eden
ton Optimist Club Friend of
Youth Award, presented by
Deputy Sheriff John McAr
thur to Hwy. Patrol Sgt.
Lamon Hill.
McArthur described Hill
as “decisive, a good listener
and problem solver.”
Next it was McArthur’s
turn to be surprised as he
was presented the 4-H Top
Cop Award in recognition of
his work on behalf of young
people in the Kids and Cops
program by Chowan County
4-H Agent Beth Stanley and
student Khalil Blount McAr
thur was chosen to receive
the honor, Stanley said, in
recognition of demonstrat
ing superior mentoring and
leadership abilities.
The evening’s Telecom
municator of the Year
Award went to the county’s
entire 911 team and was ac
cepted by Chowan County
Emergency Management
Coordinator Cord Palmer
and Kristen Jones on behalf

ents,” she said. “He has a big
heart.”
Chowan County EMS Di
rector Colin Ryan was up
next to honor paramedic
Tonya Ayers with the night’s
Emergency Medical Techni
cian of the Year Award.
“She prides herself on do
ing her best at every level,”
Ryan said in describing her
as highly deserving of the
recognition.
The 2016 Fireman of the
Year Award went to Center
Hill - Crossroads Fire Chief
Hamilton. It was presented
by volunteer fireman Alan
Monds.
“We’re on call 24 hours
a day, seven days a week,”
Monds said. “We do this
to help our families and
friends.”
Hamilton noted that work
ing that kind of a schedule
requir ed a high level of com
mitment not only from the
firefighters but from their
families as well.
“If anybody deserves this
award,” Hamilton said, “I
guess my wife does.”
He added that he loves
and is dedicated to the work
he does on behalf of the
community.
“I have a passion for it, I
have a passion for helping
pe.ople,” he said.
The final award of the
evening, the Law Enforce
ment Officer of the Year
Award, was presented by
Chief Deputy Andy Bunch
to SBI Agent Marsha Seal.
Bunch said that Seal, who
was hired as a special agent
with the agency in 2000 was
highly qualified for this spe
cial recognition.
