Edenton-Chowan Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Win Dale presented a framed letter to the board written by President Don ald Trump. The letter recognizes the county’s contributions to the Unit ed States and celebrates Chowan County’s 350th anniversary. In other matters, commission ers made appointments to various boards. Sam Barrow, former town of Edenton planner who now serves as the Perquimans County planner, was approved to serve on the Board of Adjustment. According to clerk to the commission, Susanne Stall ings, the county still has one vacan cy to fill on the board, as well as a vacancy on the planning board. The Commission also approved staggering the terms of service on the Voluntary Agriculture District Board. This will ensure that the ap pointments don’t expire at the same time. According to Terry Meyers, elec tions director for Chowan County, 3,204 voters cast their ballots during one-stop voting, which ended Satur day. It was about 32 percent of all vot ers registered in the county. In the region, more than a fourth of voters have already cast ballots before elec ¬ tion day, which was Tuesday. According to several people do ing last minute campaigning at the precincts Tuesday, voter turnout was steady but not as plentiful as it was during early voting. Turnout across the 11 counties representing Senate District 1 stood at 25.7 percent, according to data available after the end of early vot ing on Saturday. About 37,800 voters have cast ballots so far across the counties. The Senate District 1 in cludes Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Pasquotank and Perquimans, plus Dare, Gates, Hertford, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Washington. Chowan, along with Perquimans, had the highest turnout in the region. Perquimans reported 31 percent turn-out so far. On Nov. 1, the town marked 39 years of being part of the Tree City USA program. Edenton is among four munieipalities in the state that have been part of the program since its found ing, according to Rick Long, of the N.C. Forestry Service, which administers the pro gram in the state. “We can be proud of our town and county for then- renewed commitment to this program,” said John Morehead, chair of the town’s tree committee.
