A dedication and ribbon- cutting ceremony for the F. Earl White Ticket Building INFORMATION The Chowan County Regional Fair started Oct. 1 and will run through Saturday, Oct. 5. Tickets are $8 for every person over 36 inches in height. The fair will be open from 4-11 p.m. today and Thursday, and 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. Besides, Albe marle Plantation is just a few miles away as the crow flies. Because small toum journal ists don’t get stories like this of ten, this will be thefirst in a two-part, series about the life and times of Richard Schulze, a retired congressman. Idea for Vinyl Night came from seeing a sign more than five years ago that advertised a similar such vinyl night in Norfolk, Virginia. Each picture has a story to tell about how Schulze, a retired Pennsylva nia congressman, came to know world leaders such as President Ronald Reagan, Egyptian President Anwar Sa dat and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin? Schulze, now 90, served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives between 1975 and 1993. Vinyl Night celebrated its five-year anniversary of playing records that span a multitude of musical genres this past weekend. Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties in the west ern Philadelphia suburbs. During his career in the House, Schulze rose to serve as a top-ranking member on the House Ways and Means Committee and the senior Republican member bn the Oversight Subcommittee. He also served on the Armed Ser vices Committee and Banking. He chaired the Republican Study Committee, and was the Republican Whip for Pennsyl vania. 44th annual Peanut Fest set for Oct. 5 Event proceeds benefit band programs at Chowan Middle, John A. Holmes STAFF REPORT Preparations for the 44th annual Peanut Festival are underway. The annual event will last all day Oct. 5 and feature activities for people of all ages. Proceeds from the event benefit the Edenton-Chowan Schools band programs at Chowan Middle School and John A. Holmes High School. First up will be the parade at 11 a.m. Participants will line up on Water and Oakum streets at 10 a.m. and travel up Broad Street to the high school. Parade registration forms are due today, Oct. 2. For lunch and dinner, enjoy a tradi tional barbecue and fried- chicken from Leon Nixon’s catering. Tickets at $9 each. The meals will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Holmes’ front parking lot, by the Boy Scout hut, and from 4-7 p.m. in the Holmes Athletic Complex. The meals There is also a raffle. For $1 a ticket, people can win either $100 for first place, $50 for second or $25 for third. You do not have to be present to win. This year’s Battle of the Bands will be gin at 4 p.m. and will be held in the foot ball stadium. Marching Aces band direc tor Lynn Dale recently said that at least 12 schools had signed up to compete. The band range oh size up to 90 mem bers. Ticket prices will be $8, while a pro gram will cost $2. New this year will be the arts and crafts set up.
