Convention. t of the activities of the Mur p!i \ Lions includes some fifty-three ;; in number, and yet the list is only pari ally complete. The list, as re polled to the convention,- follows: 1. Organization of the Robbins vi He Lions club in the adjoining coun ty f Craham. This wprk entailed fivmicnt correspondence over a per iod of three months, followed by vis its by a Lion Committee, selling Li onism to the proposed embers. Three visits were made, the first vis it. by a committee of nine, the other two visits by a committee of three. Distance thirty-five miles, one way. Seventy miles round trip. - Participation in Charter night 01 Rttbbinsville Lions Club. Commit to- of twelve in attendance. 3. Two speakers furnished for Charter night program of Robbins ville Lions Club. 1 Stunts and musical selections, fiw in all. furnished for program of Kohbinsville Lions Club Charter night. Murphy Lions Club entertained IX strict Governor Whitaker prior to hi deliverance of the Charter to the Kobbinsville Club. A special meet ing was called for this occasion, La dies Night being held and a number ' t out-of-town guests invited, among which were representatives of the Robbinsville Club. 6. Murphy Lions Club sent a mittee of twelve to a joint meet im: of the Murphy. Bryson City, Arheville Lions Clubs, at Bryson City, which meeting was attended by District Governor Whitaker. This meiting followed the reroganization f Jhe Bryson City Club. 7. Murphy Lions Club sent a committee on two occasions to Bry son City, accomnanying the Interna tional representative, in the reorgani zation work of the Bryson' City club. The Murphy Lions Club joined uith the Bryson City Club, the An drews Rotary Club and the Blairs x die, Ga.. Chamber of Commerce in the formation of an organization to advertise a 100 mile stretch of North Carolina arad Georgia Highways, reaching from Bryson City, N. C., on the north to Cleveland, Ga., on the south, and; including the Smoky Mountain National Park, the Nan ta na -a Gorge and the Neel's Gap sec tion in Georgia, also known as the >?irel State Park, North Georgia, rhis 100 mile stretch lies along No. 10 in North Carolina; No. 11, in Geor gia, and is (J. S. Highway No. 19. in cluding the towns of Bryson City, Andrews and Murphy, N. Mr. Abernathy re teivi-il the n ;? mi nation, and Mr. Sim onds n.ade a motion befoie the con ?ltion that the nomination for Mr. Abernathy be made unanimous. He has been actively engaged in the t ia* cles of his party in the county for many years. lie served two terms as Register of Deeds. He has also served as county chairman of the Republi can party, and was an enumerator of the census recently taken. His friends point out that he is one of the strc nuest men in the party and would come as near carrying the Republican banner to victory over the Democrats ..s any man they could put forward. Deputy Sheriff Dillard Morrow, who lives in the lower section of the county next to Tennessee, has been favorably mentioned for high Sher iff in connection with his capture of Higdon last year after Higdon had shot Hobert ividd and fled to he mountain wilderness. lie is a kiwanian president I ' : . \V.
