will he held at Mars Hill December
11-10, 1 9:{2. These contest have been'
sponsored for thi past six years by
t.'ie Mars Hill College.
The contest are creating- an inter
e?t ill public speaking among the
boys and girls who are participating
in them.
Each high school in Western North
Carolina is invited to send two rep-:
lesentatives, one boy and one girl. i
The contrMant* will be given free
entertainment, including room and
meals, and therefore need not incur i
any expenses while at Mars Hill.
To the school winning each contest
a silver loving cup will be given with |
t.ie name of the representative en- 1
graved thereon. This cup may be
held for a period of one year, or un
til it is won by another school.
There are about twenty-five boys
and grils in Murphy high school who
are interested in these contests.

The boys football team ol the sixth

Junior Red Cross I
In the next few days Junior Red
Cross will be introduced in our school,
Mrs. Bueck has been appointed by
Miss Pearl Weaver of the National
Red Cross to carry on the work in
this school. MYs. Bueck says that
Me chief objectives of this work is
character education and health con
servation. Some of the most effec
tive work done in various schools con
sists of service to less fortunate
schoolmates, remembering veterans
in hospitals, exchange of letters, port
folios, gilts and exhibits between
schools of this and foreign countries
having Junior JRcd Cross organiza
tions.

the last few days, but he is improving
