Mi (liles \V. Cover, Sr., past director of the first district and past president of the Chireokee County Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, presided. Other officers elected were: Mrs. J. W. Davidson, vice-president: Mrs. W. A. Hoover, secretary; Mrs. Henry Vxley. treasurer; Mrs. Mellie Miller, ehupluin; Mrs. II. Hueck, registrar and Mrs. .1 ?hn Hollingshead. Mrs. L. F. Fisher, -,f Asheville, ff esidi lit of thi- North Carolina Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Mrs. S. E. Mauney, of Old Fort, director of the First district and six members of the Cherokee county chapter of Andrews, met with the Murphy group and assisted in the | ie-orgamzalion of the chapter. A short talk was made by Mrs. Mauncy who introduced the state president. Mrs. Fisher opened her addressed with an expression of realization of the great responsibility she t els as president of the North Caro Iina division. Mrs. Fisher was formei director of the First district at which time the Murphy chapter was organized. | Mrs. Fisher took up the various objectives of the U. D. C. including. Education, benevolent, memorial and >ocial. She paid a glowing tribute to Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson I Confederate leaders. C.: was to keep alive the truth of Confederate history and to perpetuate the things for which our fore-fathers stood. G. El kins at her home Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Edna Hastings, Mrs. Howell, Mrs. 1 Wells, and Mrs. Posey as joint hos- < testes. Mrs. Tom Axley had charge of the program assisted by Mrs. Townson. The meeting was called to order by the Chairman and opened with singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", follow ed by prayer by Mrs. R. H. Foard. i After a general discussion a budget i . was adopted for the new year. Mrs. J ( II. L. Paisley was appointed as Circle Sponsor for this year. The program leader for the meeting was Mrs. R. j II. Foard, the topic being "The Church j and Education" stroking the importance of cooperation between the (t home, school and church. The program closed with prayer by Mrs. Paisley. The meeting adjourned to meet at the church May 15, at 7:3Q p. m. Bueck. The guests were the lady members of the Murphy school faculty. Mrs. K. C. Wright was guest of honor. Prizes were given to Mrs. T. A. Case, Mrs. Jimmy Ward, and Miss Laura Overton.
