merit"', were lose enough so that
the farmer could drive his cattle to
the auction place: sell direct to the
packers' representatives, and return

Corn is new the bi^ "cash crop'
of this section. But. when the yield
bumper, prices are low: and when
the crop i.. small, the farmer's re
turn also goes down. Tf som? of that
rorn was fed to carttfo it would, in
the Ion? run. pay a whole lot more.
County agent A. Q. Ketner has
pointed out that many thousands of
acres now are lying absolutely idle,
that are ideal for cattle raising: and
this applies to neighboring counties
as well as Cherokee. He also points
out that pure-bred bulls are avail
able ? at a service charge of only
$1 that will result in the prime
stock that brings fancy prices.
In addition to the vast acreage
waiting to be used. State experts
have found that this section is pec
uliarly adaptable for stock raising.
The climate results in cattle that
are not only big and healthy, but
that need be fed only two or three
months out of the year. Mountain
grazing takes care of the rest.
True, it takes capital to get a
start with good breeding stock? but
Banker Percy Ferebee. who donated
the purebred bulls to the county also
has promised that he will see that
any prospective cattle raiser, of good
business standing, shall be financed.
