it is announced today by Ernest
F Arnold. County FSA Supervis

not only have reached their goals
but some have passed them by
wide margins," said the announce
ment by the PSA Supervisor.
The winners have done fine work
on the food front."
These awards are largely based
on the number and amount of
war food crops put on the market. ?
The following farmers have been
mailed merit awards this week:
Mrs. Jessie Russell. Andrews: A.
H. Hatchett. Rt. 2. Murphy: and j
J Franklin Smith. Route 1. Mur

Mrs. Jessie Russell gave four <
sons to the armed services, one
of whom lost his life in the col

freighter, sixty miles at sea dur
ing a blackout, and she has two
sons doing essential war work.
Mrs. Russell and an eighteen
year old son. who was deferred as
an esesntial farm worker, have
been carrying on. in addition to
the usual activities of the farm,
special war production activities.
Last year, at the call of the gov
ernment. they planted three acres
of Irish Potatoes for the market.
She also put milk from eight cows
on the market through Southern
Dairies to be distributed in the At
lanta defense area. This year
she has increased her dairy herd
to eleven and Ls now constructing
a Grade-A milk cooling plant.
Even though Mrs. Russell is
sixty one years old. she has been
going to the milk barn about 4:00
A M. in the morning with a lan
tern in her hand, in order that her
farm might become a fighting
unit on the home front. It is this
Kind of home front fighting which
puts the will to win in the boys in

? nd eventually the continent of
Europe.
