ANDREWS News and Advertisements Pauline Hicks, Editor Phone 335 Noted Lecturer Tells Rotarians Of The Polish Underground ANDREWS ? Dr. Ignacy Alex androvich was guest speaker at tlu uncheon meeting on Thursday o: ast week. He addressed an audience of Rotary members and their guests on the subject "The Polish Underground". Or Alexandrovich, attomey-at lav doctor of laws and political science, and noted lecturer on foreign affairs in Poland, who re cently participated in the Round Table Conference at Colgate University on "Eastern Europe and the German Question," was ol the opinion that the American people are physically and psycho logically at a disadvantage con censing knowlede of the affairs in Europe. As a member of the Polish Un aer ground Movement who came to the United States in 1941. hav ing escaped from Poland. Dr. Alexandrovich averred that of all of the countries of Europe over run ty the Nazis. Poland was the only nation truly united in a common cause and a nation in which no Quislings could be found to set up a pupet government. As a consequence Poland has suffer ed most of all the occupied coun tries. but the Polish Underground is the most thoroughly organized in Europe, he advised. This Polish Underground not only consists of leaders and their followers, some of whom are but poorly armed, but also of the great masses of freedom loving people who are united with all the other under ground movements in Europe by that one common cause ? Search of Freedom. The underground movement is so thoroughly organiz ed in Poland that it has its own parliament, courts, and other functions of government as well as newspapers, all underground. Alexandrovich is at present as sistant editor of the publication. Hudson ANDREWS If it is true that ' a Methodist may "fall from grace", it follows that a Methodist may be restored "to grace". What holds true for the individual holds true for the church edifice. This has been eminently establish ed in the case of the Methodist church here. Due to a faulty heating plant which the church has used for a number of years, the building has been smut ridden irom cellar to garret, more invit ing to the chimney sweep than to those "saved by grace". But thanks to an awakened church membership the days of darkness now are left behind. Following the recent installation of a new heating plant costing more than a thousand dollars the ; church has been purged. Every inch of space in the church audi torium has been gone over, and every pew has been scrubbed. All the church woodwork has been repainted and varnished, the floors have been sanded and wax ed. and the seats have been shel lacked. The ceiling and walls have been painted, the light fix tures are snowy white. The stain ed glass windows are lovely in their renewed translucence. The church interior smells "as a bride adorned for her husband". Its interior which once conveyed a dark pall now glows in shining effulgence. If "cleanliness is next to Godliness" this church now savors of the New Jerusalem. In the languarge of the hymn it may now be said: "December's as pleasant as May . . . Where winter and clouds are no more" In addition to the paid help and to the assistance of pastor C. C. Washam the following ladies rendered invaluable aid in re novating the church: Mrs. John H. Christy. Mrs. Lucy Caldwell. Mrs. Florence Huffman. Miss Vivian Moore. Miss Jean Christy. Mrs. C. C. Washam. Mrs. Paul Jordan. Mrs. Joe Smith. Miss Lucile Matheson. Mrs. Boyd Ham- 1 ilton. Mrs. F. W.
