Martin, to Carl H. Townson, son
of Mrs J C. Townson and the late
Mr Townson of Murphy.
The ceremony was performed on
Wednesday, October 16, at 8
o'clock in the evening at the
Methodist parsonage in Blairsville,
Ga . by the pastor, the Rev. A. E.
I'lm.
The only attendants were Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Wells. The bride
wore a grey wool suit with brown
accessories. She is a graduate of
Cornelia high school, Cornelia, Ga.
t or some time she was employed
at Oak Ridge, Tenn., and for the
past several months has been an
employee of the Southern Bell
Telephone and Telegraph company
here.

daughter, Miss Jean Amos, to
Arnold Everett White, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. White of Murphy
The ceremony was performed at
4 o'clock p. m. on September 24 at
Blairsville, Ga., with the Rev.
i Claude C. Boynton officiating.
The bride was a student of
Murphy high school. The groom
jlso attended Murphy high school
and spent 32 months in service
with the U. S. Coast Guard. He
received his honorable discharge
jast month. The couple will re
side here.

urday evening with a birthday
dinner honoring Mr. Hyatt and
Miss Estelle Bennett on their
birthday anniversaries.
Spread with a white linen cloth,

white birthday cake trimmed in
pink and blue and topped with
candles, which stood on a reflec
tor. Fall flowers were used in
decorating the rooms.

Honored By Couple
Mrs. Abe Zimmerman, Jr., and
Mrs. Cecil Roberts entertained at
the home of Mrs. Zimmerman
Wednesday afternoon with a show
er for Mrs. Bill Barnett of Peach
tree. Fall flowers were used in
the decoration. Ice box cookies
and tea were served by the host
esses. A number of lovely gifts
were presented the honoree.

man. Mrs. Morris Moore, Mrs.

lege, Cullowhee. He served two
years as 1st." Lt. with the First Air
Commandos in the Indian theater
of operations. He received his
discharge several months ago and
is now operating the Townson
Dairy farm here. The couple will
reside in Murphy.

Plans Dance
Murphy Junior Woman's club
met in the club room at the library
Thursday, October 17, with the
new president, Miss Elizabeth
Gray, presiding. She announced
the following new members:

Wood, Mrs. Evelyn Sneed, Mrs. J.
N Hill, Jr., Mrs. Dave Sigmon,
Miss Gladys McCleskey, Mrs. Rob
ert Weaver, Mrs. Howard Adair,
Mrs. Merle Davis, and Mrs. Karl
Weiss.
The new rating sheets were read
I ?.nd approved by the club. Each
; member is given so many points at
each meeting, according to the list
of merits. The member having
the highest rating at the end of
the club year will be given a prize.
Mrs. Ann Phillips read the re
vised constitution and by-laws of
the club with a few new amend
ments that will be necessary for
the good of the club.
The president gave a report of
the district meeting of the N. C.
Federation of Women's clubs re
cently held at Cullowhee.
It was decided that the club will
sponsor the Oratorical contest
among the high school students.
The topic is "Is World Govern
ment the Path to Peace?" and the
Youth Conservation club, the latter
being the project for the year.
A Hallowe'en dance is also plan
ned for October 31, announcement
of which will be made in the
Scout.
After the business of the club
was finished, sandwiches, cake,
potato chips and punch were serv
ed by the hostesses, Mrs. Harold
Wells, Miss Mary Cornwell, Mrs.
W. D. King and Mrs. George Phil

at his home in Blairsville, Ga.
The bride is a graduate of Lima
high school, Youngstown, Ohio.
The bridegroom is a graduate
of Murphy high school. He was
discharged last May from the serv
ice after having served three years
in the 101st and the 82nd airborne '
divisions in the European theater.
Mr. and Mrs. Farmer are resid
ing in Murphy where he is at
tending the off-campus college
center.
Visit Toy Factory
Murphy Girl Scouts held their
regular meeting Wednesday, Octo
ber 16. at the First Baptist church,
with the assistant leader, Mrs.
Clyne Woody, in charge.
After a business session, they
had an interesting visit to the
Brumby doll and bedspread fac
tory. They expressed appreciation
for the kindness shown them by
those in charge.
The girls present were: Carolyn
Alexander, Jane Brendle, Rosiland
Stalcup, Betty Sue Swaim, Emma
lou Woody. Ann Shields. Jane
