Major Bradshaw Commands Army Recruiting Major Jesse N. Bradshaw, a native of Murphy, North Carolina, and a veteran of eleven years Army service, has assumed com mand of the Army's Knoxville Re cruiting District which covers thir ty-five East Tennessee Counties. Major Bradshaw enlisted as a private in the Army eleven years ago in Murphy, North Carolina. His first assignment was to Fort i Lewis. Washington, where he re mained on duty doing administra- , tive work for six and one hall years. In that time he had at tained the rank of Master Sergeant and was recommended for the Of ficer Candidates School of the Ad jutant General's Department. Graduating from that school at Fort Washington, Maryland, with the rank of Second Lieutenant, he was assigned duty with the Head quarters of the Army Service Forces in Washington, D C. After remaining on duty with the War Department for over two years, he was assigned to duty in the Pacific where he served in both the Phillippines and Japan. Returning from overseas, he was given the assignment of Command ing Officer of the Chattanooga 1 No Tinkering! A fact spelling progress as new telephone con nections are soldered together ? putting speed into the Tele phone Company's pro gram to improve service. Telephone folks are in the thick of things, striving to give you as quickly as humanly possible the kind of service you want. Installing equipment for more and better tele phone service is a time-consuming, complicated job. Miles of wiring must be laced into switchboards. Millions of intricate connections soldered, each in its precise place. Banks of electrical relays set up. Cables laid. Poles erected. Wires strung. And sometimes a whole new building constructed. "Get the work out!" That's our slogan. And that's exactly what we are doing as fast as we can get the materials and then install the equipment. PROGRESS . . . and How! In NORTH CAROLINA during 1946. the Tel ephone Company installed more facilities than at any other time in history. 52,000 miles of ex change wire, 4,200 miles of long distance cir cuits, and 37,500 telephones were added. 42 local and long distance central office additions were made and the number of employees in creased 35 per cent. As telephone service grows, so does its value to you. That's because you can reach so many more people. Each new day brings you more for your telephone dollar. A bargain . . . and how!
