The Andrews School board, with a lot of faith and not much money, has under way plans for constructing four additional rooms to the Brick Ele mentary school building here to relieve a seriously crowded condi tion. The school board is going ahead on the program with the amount of money it has on hand in its local funds without any call on the county for help at this time. However, the Andrews School board has advised the county board of commissioners that at such time as its board may have money for distribution in a capital outlay program that it would ex pect reimbursement from the coun ty to the extent of local funds spent in the present project. Work on the project will begin within the next ten days. W. T. Moore, well known builder, will be in charge of the work. Board member H. M Whitaker is acting as purchasing agent. It is hoped to have the work completed by the time school opens, August 14. As a starter for funds the 1947 graduating class here on Friday night made a cash gift of $111 to Board Chairman L. B. Nichols for the work when the first public an nouncement was made on the mat ter. although the project has been under consideration for several ? months. The members of Andrews Rotary club saw the mo tion picture ' Meet North Carolina' produced by Standard Oil Comp any at the high school auditorium here Thursday of last 'week at 12:45 o'clock. Accompanying the 3-minute technicolor picture were R. E. Taylor of Charlotte, special representative of the Public Rela tions Department of the Standard Oil Company, and W. A Goodson of Asheville, Field Supervisor for the Standard Oil Company. Sitting with the Rotary Club and seeing the picture at the same time also were the grammar grades of the local school and the high school. She told about different orphanages and the many improvements that have been and are being made in our country and of the many war 1 orphans in foreign countries.
