Patrolman Hogan. a graduate of Murphy high school, had been a member of the Baptist church for about 15 years. He was a sea man first class in the Coast Guard for three years during the war and served for a time in the Paci fic area. He joined the patrol in 1946 Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs B N. Hogan, Route 1. Murphy; four brothers, Voyd, John. Frank, and Bert. Solicitor Jones Dies Suddenly Baxter Columbus Jones. 62 ? solicitor of the 20th judicial dis trict and former state senator died of a heart attack Friday afternoon at his home in Hryson City Mr. Jones, long a prominent member of the Swain county bar had served at only one court term .nee bi.iu, nanuvi recently to th< psot of solicitor. That was in his native Jackson county. Bryson, Jr., Bryson City mayor, as solicitor ot the 20th judicial district. lie succeeds Baxter C. Jones of Bryson City, who died Feb. 28 after having held office since Feb. 10. Bryson will take the oath of office Friday at 10 a. m. in Ral eigh. The 20th district includes Haywood, Swain, Cherokee Ma con. Graham. Clay and Jackson counties. A native of Bryson City, Bry son was born Oct. 15, 1903, a son of Judge T. D. and Amy (Black) Bryson. He attended Bryson City schools and was a student at the Iniversity of North Carolina from 1920 to 1925. In 1925 he was licensed to practice law. lie is a member of the North Carolina Bar association, the j 20th district bar and the Swain county bar. lie has been mayor of Bryson City since 1937. lie also served a* mayor from 1931 to 1935. Tenn . last Sunday and whose bod ies were discovered Friday The men were returning to Murphy from Hot Springs. Ark , when the plane struck a mountain peak near Chattanooga. Mr Wells' funeral was heid at First Methodist church at 1:30 o'clock, with the pastor, the Rev. W. B Penny, officiating. Burial was in Sunset cemetery with full military honors. As the burial service was taking place, five planes flew over, and one disap | pea red. Mr. Wells was a Marine pilot i from 1942 to 1947. and spent two ' an a half years overseas. He was a Marine reserve officer at the time of his death. He attended Western Carolina Teachers' col lege at Cullowhee two years, and the University of Alabama one year. Mason on Feb. 22. was attended by the largest crowd ever seen at a funeral at Maggie's Chapel Five hundred ears were counted, and the crowd was estimated at 2.000. People were there from North Georgia, from Tennessee, and Western North Carolina.
