He was educated in the pub lic schools of Holland, and at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Hamburg. Germany. He entered the ministry in 1933 For ten years he was pastor of a rural church in northeastern Holland In 1943 he became pastor of the Baptist Church in Haarlem.
