J 0:00 A. M. for Pvt Clarence
Verlon Postell, age 27. at the Red
Marble Church of which he was a
member.
Pvt. Postell entered service May
24, 1944 and was in the 4th Divi
sion, U. S Marines. He was killed
in action on Iwo Jima. March 3.
1945.
Surviving are the widow, the
former Miss Helen Ruth Matheson,
And one son. Carol Eugene: the
parents. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pos
tell of the Rhodo section of Yn
drews; four sisters, Mrs Nathan
Dockery of Taylorsville, \ C .
Mrs Kelly Bradley of Lake Alfred.
Fla., Mrs. Sam Campbell, Robbins
ville, X. C . and Mrs Ray Roper
of Andrews.: three brothers. Gtj^
aid of Robbinsville. Garland of
the U. S. Navy and Marvin of An
drews.
The body arrived Tuesday.

Know Your Teacher

Mrs Brown is a native of An
I drews and is a graduate of the
local high school She was presi
de nt of her senior class.

Mrs Brown started her teaching
career m the fall of 1930 at Bethel j
-chool which was located about j
' .vo miles below Unaka. Bethel was '
i one-teacher school and Mrs.
Bivwn taught all seven grades, j
School started early in the fall ,
and by teaching some on Saturday,
the six months term was complet- ,
ed by Christmas. After the Christ- ;
iras holidays Mrs. Brown returned '
to Cullowhee for the next six
month* for additional college
training During these six months
Mrs Brown stayed in Reuben
Robertson Hall and was president

tion
In the meantime, the little Beth
el school had been consolidated
with the I naka school and Mrs
Brown was transferred with,
school to Unaka where she taught
the third and fourth grades. Al- I
though, the Bethel school had
been moved to I' naka. it was re
quested that the teacher board in
the Bethel community and go
back and forth to >chool with the
pupils The children and the
leather rode on a wagon drawn
by mules The driver was Jack
Shackleford. When it rained the .
wagon resembled the covered
wagon used in the Westward
Movement. This was in 1931-1932
The next two years Mrs. Brown '
taught all seven grades in the j
Little River Hill school and went
to Cullowhee the months tha* ,
were left after the school term*
closed.
The above four years of teaching '
were done under A L. Martin |
County Superintendent at that
time Mrs. Brown held an Elemen- )
tary A certificate at this stage of
the game
In 1934-1935 with a B certificate. 1
Mrs. Brown had her first year's
experience in the Andrews ele
mentary sehool under Superinten
dent J. J. Stone, and lor two 1
years taught a mixed group ol
fourth and fifth grade bus child- 1
ren. The following year she was
given one section of the fourth
grade and remained in this posi
tion until 1942-1943.
Mrs. Albert CJ. Brown was
known as Miss Addilee Battle
prior to her marriage in 1S40 I
Mrs. Brown was given a Leave of i
Absence from the teaching profes- |
sion in 1943-1944
Mrs. Brown re-entered the |
teaching field in Andrews in 1944- |
1945 and has been teaching here
since that time
Mrs. Brown is a teacher with
various and sundry experiences
She has been in every New Eng
land state except Maine, and has
been in every state that lies bc
t ween North Carolina and Texas
She has also visited in Oklahoma
and Kansas While the Bretton
Woods Conference was in sessic.ii I
Mrs. Brown visited Mt. Washing
ton House. However, she hastens
to remark that she was not an of
ficial delegate at this conference
Mrs. Brown has spent several
Christmas vacations in Florida, at
tended the Texas Centennial in
1936. attended the World Fair in
New York in 1939. and has made
a trip into Canada each year since
the summer of 1940
While Mrs Brown's husband
was with the Maps and Survey
Department of the T V. A. in
New York state. Mrs. Brown did
observation w ork in Madison
School in Syra cruse. N. Y. The
Madison School is a problem
school composed of white and
colored children Mrs Brown did
six hours of Business Education
while doing research work in the
Library of the University of
Syracuse. She also did some ob
servation work in the Baker Libra
ry' operated by Darthmouth col
lege, Hanover. N. H. She has done
observation work in Hanover
Graded school. Hanover. N. H
This is one of the most progressive
schools in that state
Mrs. Brown is very active in the
school community She has held '
various offices in the local NCEA.

assistant director of Bible school
last summer, and is identified
with many other community activi
ties.
The Brown's daughter is known
as "l'atty Jane."

l.uther's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.
W. Luther.
Boyd B. Robinson, principal of
the Andrews Elementary school,
spent last week end with his
mother, Mrs. Mary Willie Robin
son, Maiden.
