"The Iron Curtain" I.atest WARNER News May Festival To Be Held Today May Day will be held for Mur phy high school today (Thursday) { at the fair grounds with the entire Fchool participating. Sybil Hughes will serve as Queen, Jane Sneed. Maid of Honor and Doyle Burch as King. The court is made up of students in the senior class. The festival will open with the sinking of ?Welcome Sweet Spring time" and follow with a modern dance by high school girls. Oth.M things on the program are: Ameri can Dance, first grade; Dutch dance, second grade; American dances, third and fourth grade"; English dance, fifth grade; Danish dance, sixth grade: Physical edu cation exhibition, seventh grade boys; Appalachian dance, eigh+ grade and the May Pole and square dances by the high school grades. DECORATION The program for the Macedonia Baptist church Sunday, May 23. will be as follows: Devotional led by Charlie Raper at 10:00 a. m.. decoration will be held from 10:15 to 10:45, song service at 10:45 The Rev. C. J. Thompson pastor, and the Rev. Virgil Brown will preach at 11:00. Lunch will be served from 12 to 1 o'clock. The afternoon will be devoted to sing ing. EPISCOPAL SERVICES Sunday school will begin at the church of Messiah at 9:45 a. m. Sunday morning, followed by pray er and the sermon at 11 o'clock Holy Communion will be held Sunday night at 8:45. A church supper will be held at 6:30 Saturday night followed by a business meeting. GRADUATION HELD AT HIWASSEE DAM Graduation exercises were held Wednesday. May 19, for the eight grade of Hiwassee Dam school when 36 pupils were promoted to the high school. Valedictorian and Salutatorian were Gharlene Mash burn and Geraldine Allen, respec tively. Presentation of certificates ynd awards was made by Walter Thomas, school principal. D?\ W. A. Campbell of Athens. Ga., was joined here last Satur day by his sister. I | Leap Year Party Held At Hiwassee HIWASSEE DAM? The Future Homemaker's Chapter had a le ap year or turnabout party Friday. May 14. It was in the form of a hay ride on the back of a truck The girls asked the boys for dates, called for them and pinned r?<1 rose corsages on them. The boys were asked to wear something feminine. All the high school teach ers and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Miss Maggie Belle Kisselburg were invited. Mrs. W. T. Gibson, chapter mother, accompanied the group. Mann, was a model in the annual Spring Benefit Bridge party given by the Junior Federa t on Woman's club of Akron. Ohio.
