Teachers !n Training Use Town Resources Teachers in training at Young I Harris College this summer are participating in a professional pro gram which integrates the use of art. music, childrens' Literature, and community resources in the t e a c h i n tf p ro ced u res. Prospective teachers work to gether to select problem areas and develop a program on the . lementary level which will incor porate all creative activities. Teacher training officials point out that one group is working on the problem of maintaining physi cal. mental, and emotional health or the elementary level. In connec tion with this problem the prospec tive teachers will carry out activi ties such as painting of a mural which depicts various health ser vices. They w:ll utilize the service of a member of the Young Harris staff for aid in this. They will re ceive the aid of a member of the j mu>ie staff who will help them j with public school music dealing with health. The development of a rythm band and the practice of fo'k -James will lend to the deve lopment of aesthetic appreciation. In the .^election of health litera ture for children the members of Die Towns-l'nion Regional Library staff are utilized, thus developing an understanding of community resources on the part of prospec tive teachers. Theory of methods enter into the picture as a means toward an end according to Starr Miller, director of teacher education, who points out that this is only one unit in the Young Harris Plan for teacher education.
