Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Hughes and children, visited relatives i n Hayesville last week. Mrs. Arthur Akin and grandson, Bobby have returned to Fontana after having spent a week here. On Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Mauney, and Mrs. Wills and Mrs. | Colley were guests of Mr. and 1 Mrs. T. A. Case who were hosts to their bridge club at the Terrace hotel in Andrews. On Saturday evening. Dr. and Mrs. B. W. Whitfield entertained with a buffet supper and bridge at their home, as a courtesy to Mrs. Wills and Mrs. Colley. Three tables of bridge were inplay. PERSONALS Miss Mildred Wells of Atlanta is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noland Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Davidson, Jr.. and daughter, Diane, of Kan sas City, Mo. are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Davidson, Sr. this week. Ben Akin has returned to his home here after a month spent in Oak Ridge with his sister, Mrs. R. E. Wallace and family. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harshaw ar rived Wednesday night from St. Petersburg, Fla., to spend the summer at the Harshaw Farms. Frank Mauney left Monday for Washington and Newnam, Ga., on business. He will return about Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. David E. Day of Winston-Salem left Thursday after spending several days as guests of their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Davis, and Mr. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Webster and children of Rowland visited Mrs. Julia Blanchard and Miss Addie Mae Cooke Tuesday. Mrs. Callie Barnett of Akron. Ohio is spending a few weeks with Mrs. Bessie Deweese and family. Veterans Needed Any veteran who will volunteer to take part in military funerals is asked to contact Master Sgt. Ken Coon at the Recruiting Station Courthouse in Murphy or DaveSigmon at the Courthouse Men are urgently requested to cc: per ate in this service, as the number of bodies now being brought back is in creasing, and often it is difficult to obtain enough veterans to give a complete military funeral. Heck circle had charge of the general meet ing of the Baptist Woman's Mis sionary Society which was held at the church Tuesday afternoon. The meeting was opened with the hymn, "The Church's One Foundation", followed by the devo tional by Mrs. Henry Hyatt, and a special number, "The Church in the Wildwood", by Miss Patricia Hicks. "The Rural Church and its Needs" was the title of the pro gram which was presented by Mrs. B. L. Shields. Taking part on the program were Mrs. Ben Palmer who pre sented "A Picture Album of the Past"; Mrs. J. Alton Morris whose topic was "A Moving Picture of the Present" and Mrs. Lloyd Hen drix who gave "A Sketch of the Future." After a short business session presided over by the president. Mrs. Henry Hyatt, Mrs. J. L Savage closed the meeting with prayer, and the group sang "Blest Be the Tie That Binds." Mills Children Honored At Party By Their Mother Mrs. Clifton Mills entertained at 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at her home with a birthday party honoring her daughters, Nancy Lee who was seven years old, and Glenda who was five. The children enjoyed a round of games after which they were invited into the dining. room for refreshments. The table was centered with a white and yellow birthday cake topped with 12 yellow candles, seven of which were lighted one time, and blown out, then five were lighted and extinguished. Mattox en tertained a group of Murphy visit ors and others at Duke's Lodge Friday evening Mr. and Mrs. H. Bueck had as their guests this week, Miss Vir ginia Ruth Wolf of Nashville. Wearing an eve ning gown of white marquisette, with imported lace trim, and white mits to match, silver shoes and bag. she carried a purple arm I bouquet, presented by the Chero kee County club. Her marshall were: Paul Heaton of Andrews and P. J. Henn. Jr., of Murphy. Mrs. Robert Reid, her mother, was chaperone. The room of Miss Reid and her mother at Country club was dec orated with flowers that was a gift from Asheville Country club Miss Hettie Kate Akin of Lum berton was a visitor here last week.
