Morrow Is Fatally Burned Revival Starts At Baptist Church Sunday Evening Revival services with special emptors on soul winning will be held at First Baptist church all next week, beginning Sunday eve ning. Hoovei' Mrs. J. L. Savage and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Buchanan. "A Winning Witness" for adults. Evangelistic messages will be brought by the Rev. J. Alton Mor ris at tt o'clock each evening. Pastors Protest Moving Of The Truett Home The Baptist Pastors' conference of Western North Carolina repre senting i\ associations. West Liberty Nor^h Carolina. | Macon Tennessee River. Tucka seigee, and Haywood meeting in Andrews. Monday passed the fol lowing resolution to be submitted to the General Board of North Carolina Baptist State Convention: Inasmuch as Dr. George W. Truett was one of the greatest Baptist preachers of all time and inasmuch as Divine Providence permitted him to be born in beauti ful Western North Carolina in a little country home nestled in the hills of Clay county along side a mountain stream; "And inasmuch as this property belongs to the Baptists of North Carolina and hundreds of people visit this place from all over the. South every year. "Therefore, be it resolved that j wv petition and request the Gener- j al Board to refrain from moving 1 th( building from its present loca tion to an entirely new location with new surroundings. | Be it further resolved that we urge the General Board to ap propriate money sufficient to bring the building back as near as possible to its original state and to erect a caretaker's home on the property so that a couple may be employed to care for the property in the future.'' Bud D. Morrow, 75. was fatally burned by a brush blaze near his home here Saturday about 11 a. m. Morrow and a neighbor Bart Winkler, were clearing land when Morrow's "Clothing caught fire from ' the brush, and he was burned beyond recognition. Winkler suffered severe burns about the hands, arms and face1 while attempting to remove Mor row's clothing from his body. Wink ler is a patient in Petrie hospital. Funeral services for Morrow were held Monday at 2 p. m. in White Church at Hangingdog with the Rev. Weld on West and the Rev. Oscar Winkler officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Townson Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are two sons. George of Murphy and Lee of Detroit, Mich.; three daughters. Mrs. May nard Mi 11 saps and Mrs. William, Cole of Murphy and Mrs. Frank, Graves of Blue Ridge. Ga ; one sister. Mrs. Alice Seabolt of Mur phy. Morrow ihad served as deputy , sheriff of Cherokee County, con j s*table and special officer. Pallbearers were: Lemon Sutton, Carl Palmer. Raymond Carroll. , Tommy Doekery. R. Mary Jo Doekery. and | Virginia Brannon Clubs To Hold Federation On April 28 The Spring Federation meeting <>i the Cherokee County Home Demonstration clubt will be held on Thuraday, April 28, in the Court Room in Murphy, announces Mrs. Clyde McNabb. president of the county council Mrs. Corrine Grtmsley, North Carolina State and Specialist in Family Life will be the guest speaker and will dis cuss Family Living. The meeting will feature the awarding of the small electrical appliances. Funeral To Be Held Saturday For C, L. Sparks The body o I Pvt Clyde L Sparks who was killed in action in Belgium September 18. 19445 will arrive in Murphy Friday. Funeral services will be held at Mt. /ion Baptist Church Saturday at 2 p. m.. with the Rev. Wayne Crisp and the Rev Arnold Lovell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Townson Funeral Home in cnarge. Pvt. Sparks enlisted in the army in September 1943. trained at! Camp Wheeler. Ga.. went over seas in June 1944 with the 16th \ Infantry, Co F. and was killed in I Belgium Sept. 18. 1944. Surviving are the mother, Mrs. Florence Sparks; two brothers. Bealoth and Hayden; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest Trantham of Marble. , and Mrs. Talitha Cha stain of | Akron.. Ohio. Rieger Is Speaker At Lions Meeting A D. Rieger. property manager of the Chattanooga division of TVA. was guest speaker at the meeting of Murphy Lions club Tuesday evening. His subject was, "The Unified Development of the Valley". He said. "Maximum development of the region requir es two specific actions: Protection and proper use of all the region's resources, and control of the ' region's destructive forces. Here in the Tennessee Valley the re sources include soil, forests, miner als climate, water and most im portant. people "TVA is charged with the re sponsibility .of achieving the fol lowing: The maximum amount of | flood control, the maximum deve- 1 lopment of said Tennessee River for navigation purposes, the maxi mum generation of electric power consistent with flood control and navigation; the proper use of xnarginal landis. the proper method of reforestation of all land in said j draining basin suitable for re forestation; and the economic and I soeial well-being of the people living in the basin." Duncan, the county's rep resentative in the Legislature, an nounced that the House has passed the appropriation of $118,000 for | Hiwassee State Park, and he is! hopeful of the Senate's doing the same. This money would be used in the next biennium for improve ments in the park. Donkey Softball Game Postponed The donkey softball game which was scheduled for Thursday ( t o 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 has been postponed until Monday April 18. at 8:00 Cherokee One Of 41 Counties To Get Cancer Charter Cherokee County was one of the 41 counties in the state eligible to receive a charter given by the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Ed Studstill. commander of the Chero kee County unit, has received the charter, and the name designated is: "American Cancer Society. Cherokee County Unit. North Carolina Division. Inc.* Final Rites For Duell Burgess To Be Held Sunday Funeral services will be held Sunday at 11 a m at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, for Pvt. Duell Burgess of Patrick section of Cherokee County who was kill ed in action in Germany. Nov. 22. 1944. Pvt. Burgess enlisted in the army in March 1944. trained at Camp Fanning. Tyler Texas, left the United States in August. 1944. serving in Germany until his death. The body will arrive in Murphy Saturday and be taken to the home of his mother where it will remain until time for the funeral Sunday. Surviving are two small daugh ter-. Diana and Brenda; his moth er. Mrs. Ada Allen, step father Elden Allen of Patrick: one broth er, Luther of Murphy, and a sister. Mrs. Frances Henson of Patrick; two half brothers. Willard and Howard Allen of Patrick. The Joe Miller Elkins Post. American Legion will have charge of graveside rites. Town son funer al home is in charge. Military Funeral To Be Given For Sgt. Pinkerton The body of Sgt John H. Pink erton. who was killed in aetion in France July 9. 1944. arrived in Murphy Tuesday. He was a member of the 30th Division. 117th Infantry, U. S. Army. Funeral services will be held Sunday. April 17. at 2 p. m. in Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Truett officiat ing. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside rites con ducted by Fort McPherson Post. Atlanta. Ga. Surviving are the parents. Mr. and Mrs. John M Pinkerton: two sisters. Mrs. Flora Roddy of Knoxville, Tenn . Miss Joyce Pinkerton of Suit: three brothers, Billy and Gerald of Suit, and Judson of Knoxville. Ivie funeral home is in charge. This program is sponsor ed by the Home Demonstration club 4> * * * * Sunrise Service To Be Held At Petrie Hospital * * * * Easter services in Murphy will start Sunday morning at 6 o'clock when a sunrise service for all denominations will be held on the lawn of Petrie hospital. This place has been used annually for the past few years, in order for pati ents at both hospitals to hear the program. The Rev. J. Alton Morris will preside The program will open With the group singing. "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name", and the Rev J. D Moses will give the invocation. The group will sing. "He Lives on High", following which Will'iam Bolton, new worker for the Episcopal church will read scripture The Baptist youth choir will sing. "Christ the Lord is Risen Today", and the Rev. W. B. Penny will offer prayer. The group will 9ing, "Christ Arose", and the Rev W. H. Hampton will conduct the Easter meditation. The closing hymn will be. "Crown Him With Many Crowns." C. R. Freed will lead the group singing. Special Easter music and ser mons by the pastor will feature the services at First Baptist churah. At the 11 o'clock service Sunday morning, the adult choir will sing. "In Joseph's Lovely Garden", and the youth choir. "Sing Alleluia". The Rev. J. Alton Morris will preach on. "The Resurrection of Christ, a Picture of Our New Life". Under the direction of Miss ( Moselle Moore and Mrs. J. W.
