Girl Scout Jamboree To Beein Julv 15 The Xanlahala Area Girl Scout Council Board meeting was held Thursday afternoon at the Xanta I hrla Inn. in Xantahala Village, i west of Bryson City. A luncheon was served on the ! banquet table. Following the business meeting and reports of officers, the gener- J ? 1 discussion brought out the high lights of the Area Jamboree, which is to be the bright event for the Girl Scouts at Camp Lumpkin, near Franklin, Saturday. July 15. from 10 a. m. to 2:30 p. m. To reach the tamp for the Jam oorce, to which all those interested ;n the Girl Scout movement are nvited. as well as all visiting Girl Scouts and their parents, turn right 5 miles west of Franklin on Wayak road from Highway 64. The camp is about 3 miles out the Wayak :oad, just a short distance beyond Arrowhead Glade. It was suggested that those at tending the Jamboree, which is located on a lake with beautiful mountain views, bring a "Nose Fag" lunch and as many as pos s.ble come prepared to help en tertain the party with a short skit, game or songs. It is also suggest ed that those who have cameras, tring them along and take snap shots for the local newspapers in the Area. J Water Safety Instructor Course Of Red Cross Starts Monday Work Progressing On Schedule On U. S. Highway 19 Contractors report "on schedule" progress in the :elocation of U. S. Highways 19 and 129 southwest of Murphy. The S174.090 project is designed to improve the trafficway from he Georgia line to U. S. Highway (4, a route which carries a heavy volume of motor flow between Murphy, Blairsviiie, and Atlanta. Ga. Asheville Contracting company, of Asheville, holds the contract award. The firm :s a member of the Carolinas branch. Associated General Contractors of America. In their progress report, offi cials said that the grading and drainage work has been complet ed on the 3.82 miles of the re located right-of-way. and that 65 per cent or more of the traffic bound macadam base course has been laid. The contract also calls for bituminous surface treatment of the entire length. Resident Engineer F. L. Hutchi son of Murphy and Division Engineer W. M Corkill of Ashe ville are supervising the project for the State Highway and Public "Vorks commission. Rev. Cecil Robbins To Preach At First Methodist Church The Rev. Cecil W. Classes 'or the instruction of Instructors and Senior Life Guards will be held each morning from 9 unitil 12 o'clock as a free service of the American Red Cross. Mr. Fysal. instructor of the thirty-hour course, is well quali fied for his position. He was a football star at the University oif North Carolina during his college days and at present is a member ct the faculty of Brevard College. Turing the war he was a member of the Office of Secret Service and taught under-water demolition. Anyone wishing to enroll for ?be course should contact Miss Addie Mae Cooke, Murphy; Rev.
