Funeral services were held to
day (Thursday) at 2 p, m_ in Grape
Creek Baptist Church of which he
had been a member for 12 years.
The Rev. Weldon Wast and the
Rev Fred Stiles officiated and
burial was la the church cemetery
with' Townson Funeral Home la
charge of arrangements.
He was the son of Mrs. Emma
Dockety and the late Nathan E.
Dockery of Murphy.
Surviving in addition to the
mother, are the widow, Mrs. Mary
Jo Stiles Dockery; three sons,- Lee
Edward, James sad Howard, and
one daughter, Mary Ruth, all of
the home. Also one brother, Ralph
Dockery of Murphy; four sisters,
Mrs. EUe Lovingood of Teflico
Plains, Term., Mrs. Dora Lee Mr,
Mrs. Josephine Kephaxt and Mrs.
Grace Hall of Murphy; ahd several
nieces and nephews.

Scholarship Won

Dr. L. W. Adams, dean of
Washington and Lee School of
Commerce in Lexington. Va., and
son of Mr. and Mrs. Zala Adas
of Andrews, has been awarded a
scholarship which consists of a1
two-weeks' course try Du Fast for
selected economists. During the
course he will visit plants at
Wilmington, Del., New Jersey and
Buffalo, N. Y. He will also attend
a three week's course in New York
City.
Dr. Adams and family plan to
visit his parents here sometime in
Angust. ,

Officers Held
Pending Inquest
The two police officers who were
involved in the fatal shooting of
Hoyt Barton June 9, at the death
of Barton Friday at 8:45 p. m. were
ordered placed under arrest, by
Solicitor Thad Bryson, pending
the outcome of an inquest which
baa been set for 2 p. m. on June
27 before Justice of the Peace
Fred Bates.
The men were brought to the
Murphy Jail by Sheriff Frank
Crawford assisted by Deputy H.
H Davidson. Later bond at $3,000
was posted on each man, and they
Were released.

Sustains Injuries
In Fall From Tower
Miss Doris Tees, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Teas of An
drews fell from the pool tower at
Andrews-Murphy Airpark Monday
afternoon. She had gone to the top
of the tower after swimming and
was playing with some other boys
and girls when she slipped and fell
to the concrete below.
She was taken immediately to
Rodda-Van Gorder Hospital where
it was found'she suffered from
vertebra injuries and will have to
lemain in bed for several weeks.

Funeral Is Held
Sunday Afternoon
For Hoyt Barton
Funeral services for George Hoyt
Barton, 37, who di?\ Friday at
8:45 p. m., were held Sunday at
3 p. m. in the Vint Baptist Church.
His death was due to gunshot
wounds received June 9.
The Rev. J. Alton Morris, the
Rev. Fred Lunoford, the Rev. Leo
nard McClure. the Rev Thomas
Smith and the Rev. Alfred Smith
officiated.
Burial was in Marble cemetery
with Me Funeral Home in charge.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs.
Hazel Ledford Barton; four sons,
Gary, Grant, Randal and Ronald;
and one daughter, Linda all of the
borne; the parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George Barton of Marble; one
sister, Mrs. Beulsh Sales of Mur
phy; and three brothers, Gey of
Morriston, Tenn, Say of Lenoir
City, Tenn. and Harley of Marble.

spent Wednesday inspect r>g the
Naval Ordnance Laboratory instal
lation at Hiwassee Dam. He was
met there by A. D. Rieger, man
ager of properties, TVA, Chatta
nooga. He was accompanied by
his wife. These three were guests
at luncheon of N. J. Lowell, resi
dent in charge of Hiwassee NOL,
and Mrs. Lowell.
In the evening the above men
tioned five were guests of W. M.
Mauney and Frank Crawford at
Duke's Lodge.
Adm. and Mrs. Schindler left
today (Thursday) far Washington,
via Asheville.

The committee had a picnic

is a 30-mile boat trip on Fontana

The committee will attend the

Lions Sponsor Rodeo
The famous and sensational
Cherokee Ranch Rodeo of Goree,
Texas, will be presented by the
Murphy Lions Club at the Mur
phy Fairgrounds Monday and
Tuesday, June 25-26. Performan
ces will be given each day at 8
p. m. There wfU be no reserve
seats, and one ticket takes one
thru the entire show, according to
Dale Lee, Lion president and
Loren Davis-president-elect. One
thousand good seats will be erected
for the event.
The Cherokee Ranch is the lar
gest traveling rodeo in the world
on tour and the onljs^how featur
ing bucking horse riding by cow
girls;-the managment says

the big rodeo will bring the real

Calif., to attend the annual ses
sions of the Southern Baptist Con
vention. They went by plane from
Chattanooga and expect to return
here by June 28. Mrs. Morris will
visit her brother, J. D. Joumett,
in Los Angeles, while In Califor
nia.
In Mr. Morris' absence, the Rev,
F. V. May, assistant to the pastor,
will have charge of services at
First Baptist Church. He will
preach Sunday at 11 a. m. on
' Compromise or Conviction."

8 will be a song sermon, "The

Monday night at it* regular meet
ing to sponsor a waste paper drive
for several weeks, the money
raised to enable the club to engage
in several more activities which
will be of benefit to the commu
nity and dub. The first collection
will take place next Wednesday
afternoon, June ,27. and there
after twice a' month until further
notice. Everyone is asked to save
cardboard, newspapers, magazines,
and any other paper that might be
bundles! easily for shipment.
Trucks will be around early
Wednesday afternoon, and tbe
dub asks that anyone who cannot
be at home when the collection
begins, Just to leave paper some
where so that it can be found. The
dub says it hopes everyone wHl
cooperate in this worthwhile pro
ject.
