His first tour of duty was off the coast of the Aleutian Islands. The next trip across, which was prior to the Ko rean War. his ship, the USS Sui sun, was stationed near Formosa. Then his third time to cross the Pacific, he was stationed near Ja pan. He attended radio school in San Diego, where he received his ' boot" training also. After this he was transferred to the USS Sulsun I for active duty. At present his time I aboard this ship is surpassed only | ty one man. Jordan is a graduate of Murphy High School and attended Caro lina Teachers College. Before en tering service he was employed by Parker Drug Company. Jack E. Ritch Made Sergeant Ladd Air Force Base, Alaska? Jack E. Ritch of Murphy North Carolina, has been promoted by the United States Air Force from the rank Of Corporal to Sergeant. He is now on duty with the 5001st Research & Development Group as a clerk-typist at Ladd Air Force Base, Alaska?America's farthest north major military in stallation. Sgt. Ritch has been in the service since August, 1949 and has been in Alaska since Novem ber, 1950. Sgt. Ritch's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Ritch live in Murphy. Hogsed, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Hogsed of Route 3, Murphy, Is! serving aboard the amphibious force flagship USS Eldorado, com mand ship for Naval forces sup porting the UN delegation in Ko rea. ? The Eldorado's crew had a ring side seat watching war correspon dents in action when the first pic tures of the peace meeting were dropped on the after deck of the Eldorado and radio-photoed direct from the ship to San Francisco. During the peace talks, the elab orate radio and radio-photo facili ties aboard have beamed to the world news stories and pictures of the conference in progress. AT RANDOLPH Sgt.
