Murphy Bulldogs
Defeat Wildcats
The Murphy Bulldogs defeated
the Andrews Wildcats in their
opening game at the home field
Friday night, September 5, by a
?core of 6-0.
Before a large crowd of Murphy
and Andrews fans, the two elevens
battled through three quarters
without a score. The lone tally
came early in the fourth quarter
when Ralph Swanson, a substitute
linesman of the Bulldogs, rushed
in to block an Andrews punt on
the Andrews 10 yard line. Capital
izing on their break, Bulldog back,
Ramsey, plunged through the An
drews line for the touchdown. The
conversion was no good.
During the first quarter An
drews made one first down and
Murphy nude one Andrews fum
bled once, recovered by the Bull
dogs. while Murphy fumbled twice,
both recovered by the Wildcats.
The quarter ended with the Wild
cats in possession of the ball on
the Murphy 29 yard line.
In the second quarter, Andrews
scored a safety onlv to have it cal
led back on an off-side penalty.
Murphy fumbled on the 30 and
Andrews recovered. The Wildcats
picked up a first down on a left
end reverse with the ball carried
by Carl Matheson.
The Wildcats in scoring position
on the 9 yard line, fumbled, with
Murphy receiving the ball and car
rying it back to the 30 yard line
where they fumbled and Andrews
recovered Andrew* p. eked up an
other first as Matheson carried the
ball to the Murphy 11 yard line.
Another Wildcat scoring threat
failed as the half ended with An
drews in possession of the ball on
tb; Murphy 7 yard line.
In the third quarter Andrews
picked up one first down to Mur
jhy's two. The second first down
for the Bullodgs came with a corn
dieted pass for 18 yards from
latnsev to Elliott. (
Murphy kicked from their own
40 to the Andrews 10. Early in the
final period Ralph Swanson block
ed the Andrews punt from their
own 12 yard line, covered the bail
on the Andrews 7. Ramsey hit the
Andrews line for an off-tackle
play that paid in a TO. The try
for the extra point failed. The
Wildcats came back to threat again
in the final period when a pass
from Matheson to Cooper carried
to the Murphy 6 yard line but waa
tailed back on a penalty. Ramsey
of the Bulldogs, intercepted an
Andrews pass on the Murphy 10
to end the ball game.
Captains for the Andrews team
were Leroy Gilbert and William
Franklin. For the Bullodgs, Bill
Thompson and Fred Dalrymple
Officials were Bumgarner, Ben
nett and Keller of WCTC.

vision in Japan.
His unit, one of the first to fight
in Korea, currently is undergoing
extensive aerial movement and
amphibious training on the nor
thern most Japanese island of Hok
kaido. It was transferred to Japan
last December after 17 months of
combat.

his assignment overseas.
