Com, -G Hugh Hood Rites Tuesday Hugh Hood, 53, a Baptist minis-' ter, was 'found dead in bed in his home here Sunday at 2 p. m by Fred Johnson, Murphy policeman. Police had been called by neigh bors when they had not seen Hood ; who lived alone. since Friday. Johnson had to break into the house as all doors were locked. He railed Dr Harry Miller. Cherokee^ County coroner, who said all in dii at ions were that Hodd died from natural causes and had been j dead sin< e Friday night He said I no inquest would be necessary. A native of Swain County, Hood | had resided in Murphy for 25 j years, and had been employed by several lumber companies. In 1949, he was ordained a minister In Calvary Baptist Church, and was active in church and assoeiational work He was a member of the I First Baptist Church here. Funeral services were heid Tuesday at 10 a. m. in the First! Baptist Church. The Rev J. Alton Morris and the Rev. J. D. Moses i officiated and burial was in Sun set Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Way man Odom, John Stratton. Billy j Millsaps. Robert Panther, Arden Davis and Clyde Gladson. Honorary pallbearers were the Rev John Odom. the Rev. Ray mond Carroll. the Rev. George Wilson, the Rev. Colvin Thompson the Rev Luther Swanson and the Rev Fred Stiles. Survivors include one son, Frank of Big Bend. Calif : one daughter. Mr. | Brown is the son of Mr and Mrs Ben H Brown of Murphy. Luther M. Dockery, P^t. 3, Mur phy, is the newly appointed mem ber of the Cherokee County Farm er's Home Administration Com mittee S. S Williams, the Agen ty's County Supervisor announc ed this week. The appointment became effec tive July 1. Mr. Dockery operates .1 livestock and poultry farm in th.s cour.tv. The other two members of the three- member committee are Burton Mi Nabb. Suit, where he operates his farm, general farm in;; and poultry, and Vic Raxter. Marble, where \e has operated his farm for a number of years. Roth Mr. M' Nabb and Mr Rax ter have been active in the Coun ty Agricultural programs of the county. Each member is named for a thri^-year term, and or.e appoint ment expires each year. No mem ber completing a 1 year term can succeed himself. Every agricultural county in the country has such a committee to help the Farmers Home Ad ministration County Supervisor adapt the Agency's loan policies to local conditions including farm credic. Refore any money can be bor rowed through the agency, an ap plicant must have the approval of the County Committee. In the case of a farm ownership loan, the farm to be purchased, enlarg ed, or improved must also be ap proved by the committee, the County Supervisor explained. The attractive new building is modern in design and is construct ed of concrete blocks and stucco ? painted in pastel hues of pink and green The hospital was designed by Dr Headrirk s brother. A notice to dealers said the price raise was made "due to cost In materials". The wholesale rate for a case jumped from 80 cents to 96 cents Monday morning. July 11.
