IJIJJK MOODY HOLLYFIELD Mrs. LJllie Moody Hollyfield's memory of teaching in Graham County goes back (or some 39 1 years when she began teaching ( it Snowbird Indian School at the age of 17. Mrs. Hollyfield recalled that at the time she started teaching her pay was one dollar per day. She taught at Snowbird tor one year. Snowbird, she said, means "White Wing Valley". ^ Her second year of teaching , was at a log cabin on Upper West Buffalo. The couple has returned from a short wedding trip in Florida. The bride is a junior at the Rob binsville High School and th? bridegroom is a graduate of Ste- 1 coah High School. They plan to make their home in Robbinsville and Wilma Jean will complete her studies. Robbinsville Has Celebration Nov. 11 Robbinsville celebrated Armis tice Day with a parade Thursday. Represented in the parade were the American Legion, the band, the cheerleaders, Boy Scouts, fire truck and the Future Farmers of America float. They paraded around the court house then formed positions on the courthouse lawn. The Rev. Frank Cook led prayer, then the band played "The- Star-Spangled Ban ner" while the Legion raised the flag. | At one o'clock everyone had gathered to see the last football game of the season? with Hayes ville. Robbinsville played an excel-, lent game and beat Hayesville 1M. The American Legion sponsored a square dance which started at 8 :00 p.m. Legion Auxiliary Has Clothing Project The American Legion Auxiliary recently held a meeting with Miss Nellie Jo Carter where they plan ned to help the other clubs to col lect used clothing for the needy clothing project. They also made arrangements about sending gifts to the patients at Oteen and Swananoa. The president, Mr*. James Har rington, presided. trail to shorten the distance. At times, Mrs. Hollyfield said, the road was filled with snow and ice. She was called to her home school on Snowbird the third year and taught there for ,10 y ears at this time. The Passing Scene By Jackie Bryson BEAUTIFUL OAT I It was a beautiful day? the sky mo blue, the sjrn so bright ? it seem ed as if it was the final fling of fall before winter is here. The pop ulace of Robbinsville sat on the hill anticipating a good game ? suc cess was in the air. The boys putting forth a lot of effort and executed some beautiful plays. The game ended in triumph for Robbinsville ? Robbinsville 19 ? Hayes ville 7? and we have hopes ' for our team in the coming year, v SOME OF THE BEST , j In spite of mil I've said about our scenery I still haven't mentioned some of the best. This is the moon light scenery. The other night we were riding' down the lake toward Santeetlah Dam when we looked out across the lake? the moon was full-shin ing on the lake and the surround ing mountains ? it was so beautiful it would make your heart skip a beat. I Elementary teachers in grades one through five heard Mrs. Grace Council, formerly a reading con sultant with the Birmingham Pa per Company, and presently on the staff of Appalachian State College at Boone. The lower grade (roup met with Mrs. Council in the RobbinsviUe School Cafeteria. Mrs. Council spoke on Teaching and Intergrat- l"\ ing Language arts and Science, in Elementary Schools. Mr. Dunlap, in addressing the outlined the uses that could be upper grade and high school teach ers in the High School Building, made of resource material which teachers have at hand or can se cure easily. CHAPMAN JOINS CORPS Robert Hayse Chapman, 18. son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Chap man of Rt. 1, Murphy, has been enlisted in the US Marine Corps and been assigned to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot at P arris, Island, S. C.
