Whitaker-Palmer Cake Cntting Told Miss Ollle Whitaker, bride-elect, and her fiance, Oscar Palmer, were honored Saturday evening following the rehearsal with a cake cutting at the home of Miss Mere dith Whi taker, a cousin of the bride elect with Mrs. J. Ward Long also a cousin of Franklin and Mrs. Victor N. Wood a sister of the < bride as associate hostesses. MCEXVINO LINK The hostesses received the guests Mrs. J. E. Rufty presided at the punch bowl. Assisting in cutting the cake were Mrs. Edwin Whlta ker, of Bryaon City, and Mrs. J. Earl nf Pf Asheville, a sister of the bri^Vect. Others assisting in serving Were Misses Daisy Battle and Vera Moore. The bride's table covered with white net over pastel green cloth was centered with an arrangement of white gladioli. roses, stocks and gypsophlla In a silver and crystal epergne, flanked on either end by tall white tapers In silver holders. The tierea wedding cake was top ped with a miniature bride and groom. Arrangements of magnolias, ros es, Ulltes and gypsophlla furthering | the green and white bridal motif were used in the rooms. Pal mer, Akron, Ohio, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Palmer of Mur phy, Sunday at 4 p. m. at the home of the bride's brother-in-law and sister, Mi', and Mrs. Victor Noland Wood in Andrews. The Rev. Robert H. Barker, pas tor of the Valley River Baptist Church, performed the double ring ceremony. The Rev. 7ohn C. Cor bitt, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Andrews sang "Because". The vows were spoken before an Improvised altar against a back ground of mountain greenery, and candles flanked on either side by tall floor baskets of white gladioli and Oregon fern. The bride and bride-groom enter ed together. She chose a street * length dress of delphinium blue em bossed faille fashioned along prin cess lines with Chantilly lace bol : ero. She wore a shoulder corsage :of white carnations and all white accessories. Miss Daisy Battle, a close friend of the bride was maid of honor. She wore a mist grey orlon afternoon dress with navy accessories. Her corsage was of pink carnations and blue for-get-me-nots. Robert L,. Wilson of Asheville, nephew of the bride, served as best man. Acting as ushers were Edwin B. Whitaker, of Bryson City and J. 'Ward Long of Franklin. Assisting at the reception im mediately following the ceremony were: Miss Meredith Whitaker, Mrs. J. Ward Long, Mrs. Edgar Whitaker, and Mrs. Ralph Wilson. A color motif of green and white was noted in the arrangements of flowers featuring roses, larkspur, lilies and gypoophlia used in the dining room. The attractive flower arrange ments were by Mrs. J. Ward Long 'I of Franklin. For traveling Mrs. Palmer wore a tailored mist grey-blue silk chan ' tung suit with white and navy ac cessories and white carnation cor i sage. After a wedding trip "by car i they will make their -home In Ak ? ron, Ohio. ' The bride is a graduate of the Andrews High School and attended Western Carolina College. She taught school (or a number of years in Cherokee County. For the ' past number of years she has been employed by Whltaker Bros, in Andrews. The bridegroom received his edu cation in Cherokee County and is employed by Good Year Tire and Rubber Company as an engineer in Akron, Ohio. Out of town guests for the wed ding included : Mr. and Mrs. J. | Earl Orr, the latter, a sister of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Orr and children. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. John Kennedy and daughter, Jean of Miami, Fla. are spending two weeks here with Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Townson, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Piercy and other rela tives. I Mrs. Carl Knight has returned to her home in Alcoa, Tenn. after two weeks visit here with her sister, Mrs. R. C. Mattox. Mrs. Dale Lee will leave Sunday for New York City where she will spend two weeks buying goods for the Candler Department Store. Mrs. John Campbell and children Bill and Jane Ellen of Nashville, Tenn. are spending two weeks here with Mrs. Campbell's mother, Mrs. i R. C. Mattox. Mrs. O. M. Fleming who has been the guest of Mrs. Dixie Pal mer for sometime has returned to her home in Asheviile. Fred Bates left Wednesday for he University of North Carolina, to enter law school. Miss Mary Farmer, assistant Home Demonstration Agent in Buncombe County, and her brother Kenneth Farmer and his fiancee, I | Miss Evelyn Gibson of Marlon, S. j C.. spent the week end here with Misses Kate and Leila Hayes. Both Mr. Farmer and Miss Gibson are teachers in Spartanburg, S. C. J Mrs. Walter Wimbrow of Akron, Ohio., and Mrs. Frank Hensley of Nashville, Tenn., have been here visiting Mr. and Mrs. Don Gentry. I Mrs. Wimbrow is the mother of Mrs. Hensley and Mrs. Gentry. I Chapel Hill, has returned to UNC j for summer school after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Gentry. Miss Gibson To Wed Kenneth Farmer In Aug. BOSS EVELYN GIBSON Betrothed to Kenneth B. Fanner Miss Evelyn Gibson of Centen ary, S. C., will be married to Ken neth B. Farmer of Tomotia and Spartanburg, S. C., on Aug. t, It was announced here today. The marriage will take place at the Centenary Baptist Church. j Miss Gibson Is the daughter of | Mrs. David . Franklin Gibson of Centenary, S. C., and the late Mr. ' Gibson. She is a graduate of Lime stone College, Gaffney, S. C.t In] 1951 with a B.A. in physical educa tion. She has taught in Spartan burg City Schools since her gradua tion. Mr. Farmer is the nepnew of the Misses Kate and Leila Hayes of Tomotia and son of Glenn Farmer and the late Mr*, flattie Hayes Farmer. He received his B.8. in in dustrial education from Clemsoti A and M College, Clemson, 8. C., in 1961 and has taught in Spartanburg Schools for the past three years. Both the bride-elect ana the bridegroom-to-be, along with Miss Mary Hayes Farmer of Aaheville, spent last week end at the home of the Misses Hayes at Tomotla.
