Society News and Club Activities Valleytown Home Demonstration Club Meets With Mrs. McKeldrey "Window Treatment"- was dis cussed by Miss Thelma Wheeler, Cherokee County Home Agent at the meeting of the Valleytown Home Demonstration, club Wednes day at the home of Mrs. W. G. McKeldrey. Miss Wheeler illustrated her talk with completed curtains, and fabrics, including cottons, nylons, linen weaves, dacron, and fiber glass. ? She explained the importance of good selection and construction of window curtains, what they can do for your room and the general pro ceedure for various types of cur tains. During the business period, plans were completed for the observance of National Home Week April 28 throught May 4. A display of types of landscaping, and renovation* will be placed in the down town section. Announcement was made of the district meeting to be held at Hayesville May 9 and the luncheon on May 6. Reports were heard from the various committees. Mrs. Roy Wil liams, president, presided. Mrs. C. S. Freel had a number of her recent books "The History of Cherokee County" on display. At the conclusion of the pro gram the hostess served refresh ments. She was assisted by Mrs. Carl West and Mrs. A. B. Mrs. White graduated from Mur phy High school, attended Woman's College in Greensboro and now holds a position with the Federal Government in Atlanta. Mr. White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cyrus White of Murphy is also a graduate of Murphy High School and has been attending Western Carolina College, Cullo whee, N. C. He will continue bis studies in Ailanta where the couple will make their home. Mrs. T. S. Evans Hostess To Mae Perry Circle The Mae Perry Circle of the First Baptist Church met Tuesday after 1 noon with Mrs. T. S. Evans at her 1 home in East Murphy. The home was beautifully decor ated with spring flowers. Mrs. W. A. Sherrill, presided and reviewed an interesting book on missions. At the conclusion of the program, a social hour was held and the hostess served ice cream, cake, nuts and mints with coffee to the ten members present. The bride wore a light blue linen dress with white accessories. Odean Garrett, of Murphy was the only attendant. The couple will reside in Murphy, where the bridegroom is employed at the Timber Products Lumber Company. Mrs. G. W. Cover Hostess To Garden Club Thurs. Final arrangements were com pleted for the "Thrift Sale" to be conducted Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th. at the meeting of the Valley River Garden Club held at the home of Mrs G. W. Cover on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. John Christy, president an nounced the various committees for the two day affair, and also the date of the State meeting May 14? 15. Reports were heard from Miss Frances Cover and Mrs. Joe Sur savage concerning projects for the coming months. Mrs. Zeb Conley issued garden books to club members and read a prose peom on "Wildflowers". Mrs. A. B. Chandler, Sr. gave a talk on "Flower Arrangements" Attractive arrangements of French lilacs, iris and narcissi were used in the looms. During the social hour the host ess was assisted by Mrs. R. A. Dewar and Mrs. Frank Swan in serving refreshments. ANDREWS PTSA INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS New officers of the Andrews PTSA were installed at the final meeting of the school year. They are Tom Day, president, Clyde Rector, first vice-president, Mrs. James Baer, second vice-pres ident, Mrs. Alice Slagle, recording secretary, Miss Elizabeth Whitson, corresponding secretary, and Char les Delaney, treasurer.
