GABDNEB N. C. State Callage A reader from Gainer sent me some camellia Japonic! leaves which are infected with a fungus spot It U not serious and apparently no control has been worked out The disease occurs as irreg ular grayish spots, sometimes many, sometimes few, which eventually fall out and leave holes in the leaves. This trouble may be more prev alent this year because of the extremely wet weather in the spring and early summer. I have a large oak tree in my yard which was attacked by a fungus spot for the first time this year. It was about 60 per cent defol iated two weeks ago. 1 attributed the severity of the disease to wet weather. However, a good crop of buds was formed before the leaves began to drop so I anticipate no serious effect . . will watch it next year Many large trees have died in Under its college plan 302 four year college scholarships are awarded annually by 180 colleges and universities located in 48 stat es and the District of Columbia. If you have a new yard which has been filled in with sub-soil, you may get in trouble unless the necessary steps are taken to sup ply oxygen to the roots of the trees. There are methods which can be employed and I will be glad to send information if requested- Se vere topping or dehorning of trees may so weaken them that death will result.
