D. Godfrey, State Administrative Officer for the ASC committees are not in a position to know of all land sales and purchas es and therefore cannot make a change in the acreage allotments tor the land involved until a request (or a division or combination is filed by the interested producers. The regulations and instructions issued by the Department of Agri culture tell how allotments may be divided or combined. County ASC committees must fol low these regulations in all cases. " Many farmers have had some sad i experiences in the past because j they did not determine in advance how the acreage allotments would be divided before they bought or sold land covered by the allotments. Godfrey advised that both the buyer and seller have a responsibil ity for notifying the county ASC of fice as soon as possible after land is sold and of requesting the county committee to make a division of the allotments for the farm if <^nly a Sorvic* When Yom "SjL, (Mir... .'ff' that's the kind of service that counts the most, aad it's the kind of insurance service you can get only from a home town agent who is always nearby, eager and able to serve you. State College Our students In horticulture built a float for the "Homecoming Parade" at State College laat Saturday. The floor of the trailer was covered with a green raffia mat, representing a football field, augmented with goal posts and a giant football completely covered with hardy red and white chry santhemum blossoms. Fringing the two sides of the trailer were cardboard strips covered with chrysanthemums and spelling out the word, "Welcome Grads " In back, we spelled out "Horticul ture" in red and white. In all we used about 20,000 blossoms, most of which were wired to floral picks in order that they might be held securely in place- This was quite a task which was finished about 4 a. m. Sataurday. The tailer was pulled by a red and white convertible adorned with two pretty coeds in evening gowns. The float placed third in the campus Organizations Di > vision. I am writing about this because it was such a splendid group ef fort on the part of student mem-j bers of our Horticultural Club. Approximately 20 boys and girls worked from 5 p. m. Friday un til 4 a. m. Saturday to accomp lish the task. If you want to undertake some thing of this nature far high school or college festivities next fall why not begin preparation now? Your local florist and nur seryman, vocational agriculture teacher, county agent and local garden clubs will be glad to i>f fer suggestions concerning suit able flowers that can be produc ed outside as a school project Right now I can think of nothing better than hardy chrysanthe mums, about which I have al ready written. A number of requests have been received for information con cerning variety lists of tree fruits, small fruits and grapes for the home and farmstead. 1 will write about this next week. part of the farm is sold. If the purchaser owns other land and wishes to combine the newly purchases land with the other land he must file a request with the county committee for the combina tion. The county committee, ac cording to Godfrey, may not ap prove a combination unless the tracts are operated in the manner prescribed by the Secretary's reg ulations and instructions. Before approving a combination, county committees are required to determine that a legal deed has been made and recorded in connec tion with the newly purchased land. Godfrey urged that lawyers or real estate dealers who are hand ling the sale or purchase of farm land or who are advising farmers in such transactions become famil iar with the regulations before ad vising their clients or completing , any such transactions.
