S, Navy, was assigned the job of building camps for re fugees who hsd escsped the communist rule in North Viet Nam. Dr. Dooley, a disciple of Dr. Albert Schweitzer, de cided to return to Indo -Chins on his own to establish hos pitals and to give medical aid to the underdeveloped countries. This project wss the beginning of s non-profit organization called 'Medico.' Children at (he orphanage of An Lac provided entertain ment for Dooley's team at Haiphong. War did not have time to tske care of babies, Children' became old very young and learned to accept adult responsibilities without questioning. Behind the BambooCurtain, Dr. Dooley witnessed such communist atrocities as nails driven into skulls, .tongues slashed with bayonets, and ear drums punctured with chop sticks. Believing the future o( hum anity will be won -or lost with the "have nots" inSouth west Asia, Dr. Dooley has built a bridge that may one day link nation to nation. Health Director of Cherokee Clay-Graham Health District. Dr. Cann cautions parents of small children that polio re mains a hazard in our com munity. He explains that as. mora -and more children and. adults in our District are protected against polio by im munization, those without the protection of injections have less opportunity to build im munity against the disease. Consequently, children with-.' out immunization are unpro - tected from the polio virus - infecting them, and the disease may be more severe and its affects more serious. Dr. Cann further stated that a complete series of three Injections is needed for ad-? equate protection against pol-' io. He added that ' they should con act their physician for fur ther information. For the Stateof North Caro lina, five additional cases of polio were reported during the week ending September 10, 1960. The total cases in state for the January 1 to Septem ber 10 period now stands at 53 of which 27 are paraly tic type. Last year in the same period 144 cases were reported; 122 were of the par alytic type.
