COMMISSIONERS TO PAY LEGAL
FEES IN DOUBLE VOTE SUIT
The county commissioners voted
Monday night to do what the judge told
them to do, but..first they are going to
defer payment until they find out what
the state board of elections is going to
do.
Judge Algernon L. Butler, Eastern
District Court, ruled last week that the
plaintiffs lawyers were entitled to legal
fees of $6,540 for their successful
breaking of the evil and nefarious
practice of double voting in Robeson
County school board elections.
The assessment was against Robeson
County and the state board of elections.
There was talk at Monday’s meeting
that the state board of elections is
discussing appealing the matter to the
U. S. Supreme Court.
Said one disgruntled Indian observer,
“Wonder who in the H-"Will pay for
that, oae?"
COMMISSIONERS DENY REQUEST
FOR FOOD STAMP OITICE
Despite a personal appeal by
Lumbee Regional Development Associ
ation, Inc. Executive Director,
Kenneth R. Maynor, the county com
missioners on a 4-1 vote denied a
request for a satellite food stamp office
inPembroke inferring that “if one
satellite station is approved, we’ll open
Pandora’s Box...’’

Mrs. Jeffery Maynor from 12:00 p.m.
until. If you have not been contacted
yet, please call one of the following;
Indian Commissioner Herman Georgia Ray Maynor Oxendine at
Dial made a motion to approve the 521-4679; Mrs, Zette Sanderson Samp-
station, but the motion died from the son at 521-2617; Mrs. Dorothy Locklear
lack of a second. 521-4270; or Mrs. Magnolia
Oxendine Griffith at 521-9638.
George Reed Pate made a substitute
motion to deny the satellite station. The
motion carried 4-1 with only Dial voting
against it. Red Springs Commissioner
Bobby Dean Locklear did not attend the
meeting.
Maynor informed the commissioners
that the office would be funded by
federal monies and would not cost the
county anything or obligate the county
to establish other offices.
Since the proposed satellite station is
part of a federal proposal, the food
stamp office could still be approve
despite the objections of the county
commissioners.
