Thursday, August 12, 1976 Pembroke BPW Club encourages support for candidates to endorse ERA Ratification Walter G. Oxendine elected to Jaycee Memorial Foundation At a recent meeting of the f*embroke Business and Pro fessional Women’s Club in Pembroke, the membership voted to become an official sponsor of the state organiza tion, North Carolinians Unite'^ for Equal Rights Amendment. The NCUERA Legislative Committee lias conducted a survey and mailed question naires to the candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor asking the questions: “Do vo” support, and will you actively work for, the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitu tion?” The following is the result of the questionnaire: UubernatcMrial Yes. The NCUERA questionnaire focuses on a single, clearly- stated question in order to minimize the possibility that candidates might misunder stand or misinterpret the question. While the response to the questionnaire has been encouraging, all candidates have not responded. Indi viduals are encouraged to follow up the questionnaire with personal contacts with candidates prior to the August 17 primary. Candidates have emphasiz ed the importance of one-to- one contact from constituents in their own home districts. This contact can make the difference between a no and a yes vote. The following is a list of ways in which individuals can assist the NCUERA and local organizations in suppor ting the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment; -If you don't already know, find out the names of your House and Senate candidates. •Let them know that you are aware of the NCUERA ques tionnaire they received. if they suggest that they need more information, forward their request to NCUERA Headquarters, 265 Spring Street, SW. Concord, NC 28025. -Above all, let the candidates in your district know that you are deeply concerned about ERA and that you are urging them to respond affirmatively to the NCUERA questionniare. It took us 144 years to get the vote; let’s use it wisely! Page 15, The Carolino Indian Voice ACROSS THE MAYOR’S DESK With REGGIE STRICKLAND by Kntb 11.
