Thursday, September 9, 1976 Umbroke NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bul lard and family of Greenville. SC are spending part of the summer visiting in the homes of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. •lasper Bullard, Mr. Dock Scott was honored Sunday with a surprise dinner for his 77th birthday given by Mrs. Mary Ann McPhaull and held at her home on River Road. Prayer was offered by the Rev. Dawley Maynor. Present other than those men tioned above were Mrs.. Vic toria Chavis. Mrs. Jessie Maynor and Mrs. Louise Lock lear. The center of attraction was the beautiful birthday cake baked and decorated by Mrs. Jessie Maynor. Mrs. W. E. Pate and her mother. Mrs, Carrie Lee Dee- se. visited in several of their friends' homes on Sunday. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Dannie B. Bullard and family; Mr. and Mrs. Hezzie Deese; Rev. and Mrs. Dawley Maynor Mr. and Mrs. Prestiey Lowry and family; Mrs. Edith Lock lear; Mrs. Bessie Lowry and Mrs. Donnie Revels. A large number of persons from'the Pembroke area at tended the Extravaganza La bor Day sales held in Fayette ville and Lumberton. Mrs. Julia Strickland has returned home from Garden Grove. California where she spent her summer vacation visiting in the home of a sten- daughter and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Roberts. While there Mrs. Strickland visited with a friend, Mrs. Jane Taylor and also went on a fishing trip to Newport Beach, Calif. Mrs. Strickland reports she had a marvelous time. The Rev. Mrs. Blanche Poole, a patient at Marlboro General Hospital in Bennetts- ville. SC due to having pulma- nary infection (blood clot) in her lungs, has been taken out of the Intensive Care Unit and is now in a room. It is reported that her condition remains stable, Among those visiting her were Rev, and Mrs. Jack Hunt of Lumberton; and her sister. Mr, and Mrs. Frank Ball of Huntsville, Ala.; Mr. and Mrs. Uless Locklear; Mr. James Bullard; Mr,. Ronald Locklear; and Mrs. Paul Ja cobs. Marlboro General Hospi tal, Bennettsville, SC 29512, Mrs, Menever Depagter and her friend, Mr. Ron Towless, have returned to their Ocono- mowoc. Wisconsin homes af ter spending some time here visiting with Mrs. Depagter’s mother, Mrs. Carrie Lee Dee se and her sisters, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pate and Ms. Edith Locklear and children. While here Mrs. Depaget, Mr, Towless and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pate were guests in the homes of Dr. David King, Sr, and Mrs. Eula Graerson of Lumberton. Mrs. Mary Ashley and children Stephanie and Phillip of Murphy, NC spent the Labor Day Holidays visiting in the home of Mrs. Lindburg Locklear and family. On Sun day Mrs. Locklear and her daughter. Robin, along with Mrs.. Ashley and children attended church services at Whitakers Baptist Church of Rocky Mount where Mrs. Ashley’s brother. Rev. Alan Johnson is the pastor. After service.the group were lunch eon guests in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Johnson and family. Mr, and Mrs. David Earl Oxendine were weekend guests in the home of their daughter and her family. Mr. and Mrs. N. J, Emanuel of Baltimore. Md, Miss Christine Marie Korte and Glenn Michael McNeill exchanged wedding vows on Friday, August 27 at h p.ni. in a double- ring ceremony per formed a the Ladys Good Counsel Catholic Church of Detroit. Mich. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dinald M. Korte of Detroit, Mich. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs, Al Glenn McNeill of Detroit, Mich. After a wedding trip, the couple will reside in Norfolk. Va. where Mr. McNeill is stationed with the U. S. Navy. Attending the wedding from Robeson County were the paternal grandparents. Mrs. Adell McNeill and Mr. and Mrs. Al McNeill, and an uncle and aunt of Mr. McNeill. Mr. and Mrs. Ponce Chavis. Glenn Michael's maternal grand father, Mr. French Chavis was unable to attend due to illness. Also attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dis- brow of Laurel, Maryland. Mr. Al McNeill is visiting in the homes of his children, Mr. and Mrs, Al Glenn McNeill, Mr. and Mrs. Carl McNeill, Mr. and Mrs. Harold McNeill and his daughter, Mrs. Arleen Dard and Mrs. Blenda Sue Starling, all of Detroit, Mich. Mrs. Delphia Lowry of Lau- rinburg left Tuesday for De troit, Mich, where she will make her home with her sons and their familiees and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. James C. Maynor and family of the Lumberton area were visited , during the past week end by Mr.and Mrs. J. M. Locklear, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lock lear. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Canipe and son Timmy, all of Chesapeake. Va. Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adtord Locklear were their nciccs Mrs. J. M. Locklear and Mr. Locklear of Chesapeake. Va, Mr. Bazie Hardin. Jr. of Pembroke, and his brother, Mr. J. Benford Hardin of Chapel Hill, attended the 27th Annual Southern 500 Stock Car Race held Monday at Darlington, SC. Several other persons from in and around Pembroke also attended the A family cookout consisting of hot dogs with all the trimmings along with soft drinks were held Saturday, Sept. 4 in honor of Robbie Oxendine’s 5th birthday, giv en by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William A. Oxendine and held at their home, Special guests were Robbie’s paternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Archie B. Oxendine and his aunt. Miss Eva Oxendine. Plea.se remember all the sick and shut-ins and the patients in the hospitals. Robeson Technical Institute will offer a 33 hour course on the Metric System beginning Monday. Sept. 13. meeting each Monday evening from 7-10 p.m, untiiNovember 22. The course, designed for teachers and parents, will begin with a brief history of the metric system and will expand to thinking metric, prefixes most often en countered, uses of the metric system, how the metric system will be used in the United States, and metric measures- linear, area, volume, weights, etc. A $5 registration fee and social security number is re quired on the first night of class. He was then stationed at Fort Bragg for a period of 18 months where he saccessfnlly completed XVIIl Airborne Corps Artillery Basic Leader ship Coarse- Ciass 3-76. He saccessfally completed Arctic Miliray Mountaineering Orientation [winter) at Fort Greely, Alaska In November, 1975. He received a Certificate of Appreciation for Participa tion in the Solid Shield 75 at Fort Bagg. He is now stationed in Germany. He left on January 22, 1975 for 27 months of duty in Germany.
