SC and Miss Peggy Lowry, a fourth year student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Mrs. Grace Bell was in a few days due to illness and is now reported to be improving satisfactorily. The descendants of the late Peter Dial, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Brown Dial will meet Sunday. October 3, at the home of a . grandson and his family, Mr. and Mrs. George Dial of Chavis Street, and have their first family reunion. Dinner will be served around the hour of one o’clock p.m. from tables on their spacious lawn. A gospel song service was held Friday night in honor of Mrs. Emma Strickland and was held in the home of her grandson and his family, Mr. and Mrs. James Hunt. Atten ding and furnishing the sing ing were the men’s chorus of Pembroke, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Hubert Oxendine. The Rev. C. C. Allen, Sr. was the guest speaker at River Side Church of God the past week end, including the Sun day service. The pastor is Rev. Stafford Smith, He has been in a revival in Baltimore, Md. A singing will be held Sunday. Oct. 3, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the East Side Church of God of Fayetteville. The public is invited to attend. The pastor is Rev. C. C. Allen, Jr. A large number of persons . from the Pembroke area at tended the funeral service for Mrs. Lottie Bell. 77, held Friday at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. The officiating ministers were the Rev. Ches- Icy Hammonds and the Rev. T. M. Swett and the Rev, James H. Woods. Special singing was furnished by a quartet of the Rock of Bethlehem Baptist Church composed of Rev. Willard Jones, Mrs. Mary C. Locklear, Mrs. Vashti Samp- 'son and Mrs. Ann Cummings. The guest speaker at the morning service at the Rock of Bethlehem Baptist Church was Mr, Bruce Swett, A fall revival will begin Sunday night. Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. the Rock of Bethlehem baptist Church. The serx-iccs will begin Monday and throu ghout the week at 7:30 p.m. with special singing each night. The Rev. Tilford Lock lear is the pastor. The public is invited to attend all of these .services by Mrs, Alester Sampson. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Revels were visited during the past weekend by their son Mr. and .Mrs. William L. Revels and children, Bill and Jennifer of Greensboro, Mrs. Neill Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Alton Wills and children, Kenneth and Kimberly'of Charlotte. -Mrs. Hartis and Mrs. Wells are the daughters of Mr, and Mrs. Revels, and a son-in- law. Mr, Frank -Wenfree and children Bob and Lori, also of Char lotte, and Mrs. Stella Oxen dine and daughter, Mary Oxendine of Fayetteville, and another daughter of Mrs. Oxendine. Mrs. Edward Sum merville of Maiden, NC. The group attended the homecom ing held Sunday at the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Gertrude Godwin who fell and broke a bone in her leg in the month of July. 1976, has' had the cast removed and is improving some. Mrs. Ledbetter Jacobs, the senior adult Bible class teach er at Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church, visited in the homes of two of the class members who have been ab sent due to illness. They are Mrs, Lucy Sanderson who is recuperating from a heart attack at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Lacy Sanderson, and Mrs. Dainty Jones of Welton Street. • Mrs. Lacv Dial and her daughter, Mrs. James Brooks and son, and Mrs. Carlie Dial and her daughter were guests Saturday at a family cookout held at the home of a son of Mrs. Lacy Dial. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Locklear and family of Sanford. The .Annual Homecoming was held Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Pembroke. The pastor. Rev. CheSley Hammonds, was the speaker at the morning sei\ice. After which the dinner was served. In the afternoon a song service was held- Among the singing groups thaiaitendedand parti cipated were the men’s and ladies chorus of Pembroke, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Hubert Oxendine, the CariA'ells Trio, composed of three sisters. Mrs. Bessie Williamson. Mrs. Lucy Jane Oxendine and Mrs, Georgians Davis, accompanied by their brother. Mr. Kerniit Chavis on his guitar, and a duet by Mrs. Zeb Lowry and Mrs. Zadie Hammonds. Mrs. Alice Jackson and her daughter, Miss Marv Faye Jackson of Elloree, SC spent Saturday night in the home of Mrs. Jackson’s sister and her family.. Mr. and Mrs, McMur- ray Hunt of the Gaddysbille Road. On Sunday Mrs. Jack- son and Mary Faye came on to Pembroke where they were guests in the home of another sister of Mrs. Jackson. Mrs. Dainty Jones of Welton Street. Also visiting in the Jones home were Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Strickland and family. A song service was held •Sunday at the Pembroke Chur ch of God. Churches represen ted were the Oak Dale Church of South Carolina. Hickory Grove Baptist Church,, and the host church’s young peoples choir, the junior choir, the . adult choir, and the Goarge- man Quarter. The guest spea ker for the morning service was the Rev, Frank Parker of Lumberton. The pastor is Rev, Jack Hunt. Miss Marilyn Dial became the bride of Mr, Morgan Osborne in a double-ring ceremony Saturday a ttern^M iu September 25, at Willard’s Chape! Church on Route 1, Rowland. The Rev. R, M. Buchanan and the Rev. David Strickland were the officiating ministers. The bride is the granddaughter of Mrs. Lena Dial of the Pembroke area, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Osborne of Fayetteville. After a wedd ing trip the couple will reside in Fayetteville. Among the relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Dial and son of Jacksonville, Florida and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Miller and their son of Charlotte. Mr, and Mrs. Benny Sam'p- son were hosts recently when they chartered a bus and carried a group of adults to Nashville,_ Tenn. where they loured many places of interest including the (Jprey Land, the Grand Ole Opry Building and the Grand Ole Opry Hall of Fame. They also stopped in Asheville where they visited several places. Making the trip with the group were Mr. and Mrs. R, s. Graham. A singing was held Sunday at Baker’s Chapel Free Will’ Baptist Church. Singing groups who attended and took part in the song service were: The Green Pine Free Will Baptist Church Choir; the Joyful Singers from White Hill Baptist Church; The Strickland Sisters of Elrod Baptist Chur ch; and the Choir from the Youth Camp Church, along with their leader, Mr. Jesse Lowry of the Maxton Com munity- The pastor is Rev. Davis Locklear. A fall revival will begin Sunday night at Baker’s Cha pel Free Will Baptist Church. The services will be held each night beginning at 7:30. The public is cordiallv invited to attend ail of the services. The pastor is Rev. Davis Locklear. Mrs, Lillie Jacobs was visit ed for a long weekend by her daughter, Mr. and Mrs.-John ny L. Locklear and daughter, Melanie Caroline of Spring- field, Va. Mrs. Braddy Woodell and a daughter. Miss Zoe Ann Woo dell and a granddaughter of Mrs. Woodelll. Little Miss Sonya Lowry, spent a few days visiting in the home, of another daughter of Mrs. Woodell, Mr. and Mrs. David Dixon of Danville, Va. The annual conference of the Whiteville Conference was held recently at Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church of Pembroke. The speaker was the Rev. D. E. Long of Lumberton. Also present was the Rev. The bride’s sister, Mrs. Julius Oxendine. served the four-tier wedding cake, while Mrs. Grady Locklear poured lime punch from a crystal bowl. From tables decorated with white and blue mums arranged in crystal candlelaras Mmes. Russell Locklear, Jr., Prentis Locklear and Lockwood Locklear assisted in serving assorted finger sandwiches, cake squares, mints and nuts, and hors d’oeuvres. The gifts were received and registered by Mrs. Furnie Barton, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Horace Lock lear saidgood-byes Mrs. Locklear, the former Maggie Docia Brayboy is the daugher of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brayboy. Mr. Locklear is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell Locklear of the Mt. Airy Community. Mr, and Mrs. Locklear were married on September 20, 1951. Out of town guests were from Greens boro and Fayetteville. Banquet The Brotherhood of the Burnt Swamp Baptist Associa tion will hold their Brother hood Banquet on November 26, 1976 at the Old Foundry Restaurant at 6:00 until-9:06 p.m. Tickets are now on sale for this event. Guest speaker will be Dr.W. R, Wagoner. Special music will be provided. Funds will be used for the Indian Memorial Cottage. Rev. James D. Dial honored Dogwood and Leith’s Creek Baptits Church had an Appre ciation Day for their pastor, Rev. James D. Dial, recently. This was in honor of his birthday. He was honored wiht with a love offering and various other material gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt Locklear Pembroke—Mr. and Mrs. Roo sevelt Locklear celebrated their 25th wedding anniver sary with a ceremony and reception held on Sunday, Septeber 19. at 5:30 o’clock in Mt. Airy Baptist Church. The couple entered the church together. They repea led Ihe renewal of their wedding vows before a candle lit altar of vast arrangements of mums and pom-poms. The Reverend Kelly San derson officiated at the cere mony. A program of wedding music was provided bv Mon roe Chavis, pianist. Mrs. Locklear was attired in a silver- metallic knit princess seamed gown fashioned with a '■y shaped neckline. If fea tured long sleeves. She wore cut glass earrings, a 13th wedding anniversary gift from her husband. She carried a cascade of white carnations with silver streamers, and wore a corsage of white rose buds. The couple’s only daughter, Jennifer Locklear of Pem broke, served as maid of honor and ring bearer. She was attired in a powder blue knit gown fashioned with an em pire waist and long sleeves. Mr. and Mrs. Locklear exchanged gifts during the ceremony as pledges of their continuing life together. The groom presented his bride with a cluster diamond ring, and she pinned his tie with a tie tack embeded with five stones depicting the births of their five children. The couple’s four sons, all of Pembroke, served as ushers. They are; Archie Van; Millard Lloyd: Timothy Gearld; and Georgyy Allen. After the ceremony, the couple entertained at a recep tion in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Wesley Regan of Pembroke registered guests with a quill pen.
