Thursday, October 7, 1976 Chavis-Locklear Exchange vows MRS. SAMUEL LOCKLEAR nie wedding of Miss Donna Lane Chavis and Samuel Looklear was solemnized Sunday afternoon, September 19, at 3 o’clock at the home of the bride (m Hwy. 711 west of Lumberton. The double*ring ceremony was performed by the Bev. Coolidge Cummings. Hie bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose L. Chavis Jr. Parents of the teidegroom are Mrs. Alma Gertrude Locklear of Rt. 2, Rowland and Doyle Buck Lot^ear of Shannon. Hk bride was escorted to the Inqirovised altar formed of blue and white flowers and tapers by ba* fathn*. Her wedding gown of sheer trganza was trimmed with reembroidered lace. The bodice was designed with a scaUope^-Sataina neckline and sleevesn and # deep (Photo by Elmer Hunt ilhomasRoss) Tjorderiof lace accented.the A- line skirt and chapel train. Her three-tiered elbow-length mantilla was edged with matching lace, and she carried a nosegay of mixed summer flowers. . Att^ding the bride as maid of honor was Miss Gail Lynnette Qiaivs, sister of the bride. She wore a blue print gown of organza fashioned with a flounced flared skirt and ruffle. She carried a colonial nosegay of blue and white mums with ribbons and streamers. Buffy Revels of Pembroke, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a blue chiffon dress featuring a high neckline mid a ruffle around the hem. one carried a basket of flowers. Ray OMivis, brother-in-law of the brid^room, served as best man The bride was graduated from Pembroke High School • and Robeson Technical Institute. She has been employed as a derical aide at Green Grove Elementary School. The bridegroom is a graduate of Magnolia High School and is employed with Brown and Root Construction Company In Southport. Since return from a wedding trip to the mountains, Mr. and Mrs. Locklear are living on Rt. 3, Lumberton. RECEPTION A numder of other relatives and friends joined weddii^ guests for a reception given by ^ bride’s, parents at Old Foundry R^urant following the ceremony. Guests were greeted by Mrs. “niomas Ross, and Mrs. Juddie Revels Jr. invited them to register. Presiding at the gift tables were Mrs. Ralph Neville, Mrs. Willie Smith and the bridegroom’s sisters, Mrs. Leslie Riley of Fayetteville, Mrs. Ray Chavis and Miss Linda Locklear. Mrs. Richard Sheppard served the wedding cake, and Miss Hannah Revels poured punch. Beth are aunts of the bride. BRTOAL SHOWER The bride was honored at a floating miscellaneous shower recently at the First United Method Church in Pembroke. Hostesses were Miss Hannah Revels, Mrs. Richard Sheppard and Mrs. Juddie Revels Jr. The bridal table was decorated with an arrangement of blue and white mums and carnations. Guests served themselves a variety of party delicacies and punch. Special guest was Mrs. Nancy Revelsof Pembroke, the bride’s great-grandmother, who is 98 years old. First Female Commander of ROTC Cadet Lt. Col. Geraldine Holmes Home coming Sunday Homecoming will be held Sunday, October 10, 1976 at Harpers Ferry Baptist Church. A special invite goes out to all former members and all friends. Sunday School will begin at 9:45; Worship at 11:00; Dinner at 12:30; and Singing will be held in the afternoon. Rev. T.M. Swett will deliver the message. For the first time in the four year history of the Pembroke Senior High School Junior ROTC, a female has been named as Battalion Comman der. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Geraldine Holmes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Holmes of Rt, 4, Lumberton, has assumed command of the battalion which consists of four companies. Last year Cadet Ltc. Holmes served as Executive Officer of Company “C” which was sleeted as Honor Company for two of the four grading periods as well as being named Honor Company for the school year 1975-76. In her two years as a cadet in the JROTC program at Pem broke Senior High School, Cadet Ltc. Holmes has re ceived the Department of the Army Superior Cadet Medal, Superior Drill Proficiency-Bat talion, JROTC Academic A- chievement Badge (3). Mark- manship Badge Small Bore Rif le. She received the following ribbons: JROTC Academic A- chievement (4), Special A- chievement (2), Meritorious Achievement (2), Good Con duct (2), Honor Cadet (3), Distinguished Cadet (5), Best Cadet Captain Debbie Ham monds. S4, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everette Ham - monds. Cadet Captain Lawrence Mal colm, Information Officer, is the son of Mr, and Mrs. J.T. Malcolm. Commander of the Drill Team is Cadet Captain Vickie Oxendine, daughter of Mr. ^nd Mrs. James, R. Oxendine. The top enlisted person in the battalion is Cadet Command Sergeant Ma jor Ricky Oxendine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dial. Three of the four company commanders, as are many of the higher ranking officers in the battalion, are females. They are Debra Maynor, Com pany “A”, wife of former battalion commander Lonnie Maynor; Juanita Strickland, Company "B”, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Strickland; Rodney Locklear, Company “C”, son of Mr, and Mrs. Evans Locklear; Myra Jill Maynor, Company "D", dau ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Maynor. The battalion has grown immensely overlast year. This year there are 154 students enrolled as compared to ap proximately 116 last year. The Firing Range, completed last fall, is used a classroom as well as a firing area. It also contains a storage room and office. Cadet Cpt. In qualifying for the Marksman Badge, Cadet Ltc. Holmes fired a 215 of a possible 300 points. Scott, Oris Bullard, Katrina Jones, Susan Chavis, Connie Jacobs, Pamela Chavis, Ste phanie Jacobs, Wanda Lowery Lori Ann Locklear, Robbie Cummings, Jackie Cummings, Annette Barton, Wendie Bull ard, Becky Chavis, and Nena Oxendine. nine riDDon winners were entered by Jackie Locklear, grade 3; Annette Barton, grade 4; and Pamela Faye Locklear, grade 8 [held by Katrina Jones].
