December 30, 1976 NEWS by Mrs. Bazie Hardin Mr. and Mrs. Tony Jones and family and Mrs. Jones’ mother, Mrs. Shirley Smith and daughter, Leslie Smith spent the past weekend visit ing in the home of Mrs. Smith’s brother, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Sampson and family of Hanahan, SC. Taylis Rogers was honored with a party for her fourth birthday given by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Wylis Rogers and held at their home in the Lumberton area. Refresh ments were served by the hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Rogers to Jaylis Rogers. Tammie Rogers, Valerie Locklear, Eric Locklear, Kim Locklear, Debra Locklear, Matthew Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. John Rogers, Mrs. Frances Locklear, Mrs. Cladette Locklear. Special guest was Taylis’ paternal grandmother, Mrs. Viola Ro gers. The birthday cake was furnished by Taylis’ aunt. Miss Marion Rogers. The honoree received several nice gifts. Mrs. Lela Maynor re- enter ed the Southeastern General Hospital Thursday of this past week for further treatment. She is reported to be improv ing some. A gift of money was donated Sunday to the Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church in honor of their birthdays by Mr. Donnie Locklear, his 67th, and Freddie Blair., his 1st. Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Chavis and family of Stafford, Va. spent the Christmas holi days visiting in the home of Mr. Chavis’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chavis of Pine Street. Mrs. Daisy Oxendine was visited during the holidays by a son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Oxendine of Ches apeake, Virginia. Mrs. Hilda Faye Hunt and son, Ronnie, was accompanied Wednesday of this past week by her sister, Mrs. Henry F. Smith and daughters. Miss Leslie Smith and Mrs. Carla Jo Jones and children, and Mrs. Eula Pearl Strickland of McColl, SC to Charlotte where Mrs. Hunt and son left from the Airport for Westland, Mich, where they spent a week visiting in the home of a sister of Mrs. Hunt’s, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Williams and family. The group also visited in the home of a brother of Mrs. Strickland. Mr. and Mrs. John R. Smith of Charlotte. Mrs. Carlee Hunt and her daughter, Ms. Sarah Watson have returned home from Garner, NC where they spent the Christmas holidays visiting in the home of Mrs. Hunt’s son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Locklear. The Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Allen, Sr. were visited during the Christmas holidays by their son, Mr. Donald T. Allen of Fayetteville, and Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Allen, Jr. and family of Hope Mills.?, Mrs. Myrtle Maynor of the Saddle tree area and Mr. Teddy Jacobs. Mrs. Annah Hunt of the Deep Branch community was a dinner guest Saturday in the home of a son, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hunt, and family. Mrs. Hunt also spent some time visiting with her sister. Mrs. Vashti Jacobs of Chavis Street. Guests in the home of Mrs. Mary Ann McPhaul for the Christmas holidays included a sister of hers, Mr. and Mrs. Zeb Jones and son of Balti more, Maryland. Timothy Creel, and Mrs. Creel, and the Superintendent of the Sunday School, Mr. John A. Smith, and Mrs. Smith were dinner guests Tuesday night at the Red Carpet Inn Restaurant of Lumberton. Attending other than those mentioned above were: Mr. and Mrs. Bobby R. Maynor, Mr. and Mrs. Thom as E. Maynor, Mr. and Mrs. P. R. Bullard, iMr. and Mrs. Don Warriox, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Locklear. Mr. and Ms. Charlie Locklear, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Locklear, Mrs. Rosa Blair, Mr. and Mrs. Micheal Sanderson, Mrs. Te resa Alcala, and Mrs. Malbert Lowry. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Baker and children, Karen and Mi cheal. of Lexington, SC spent the Christmas holidays visiting in the homes of Mrs. Baker’s sister, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Elk and family of the Red Banks area, and Mrs. Baker’s father, Mr. James C. Chavis. The Bakers were dinner guests Saturday in the home of Mr. Baker’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker and family. Mrs. Lillie Jacobs and her daughter. Miss Lois Jacobs, had as their dinner guests Saturday, Christmas Day, Mrs. Janie Hunt and children, Shelia, Miranda, Harmon, Jeff Hurmon, and Ledge of Lum berton, and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Harrington, Jr. of the Midway Trailer Park. Mr. and Mrs. Woodard Hunt of Falls Church, Va. are spending this week visiting in the home of Mrs. Hunt’s mother, Mrs. Loy T^ckiear of the Lumberton area and other relatives. Miss Melanie Caroline Lock lear and her brother, Lamar Locklear, children of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny L. Locklear of Springfield, Va. are visiting this week in the homes of their grandmother, Mrs. Lillie Ja cobs of Pine Street and their aunt, Mrs. Janie Hunt. Mrs. Lillie Jacobs spent Tuesday visiting in the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Rosa Bullard of the Prospect Com munity. Mrs. Bullard is in due to illness. A large number of relatives and friends attended the fune ral services for Mrs. Ruby 0. Locklear held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Locklear and Son Funeral Chapel with her pas tor, Rev. Sidney Oxendine, and the Rev. Tommie Haggans officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery. Mrs. Locklear departed this life Wednesday at the Duke Hos pital of Durham where she had been a patient for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Low ry of Barker Street were visited over the holidays by their daughters, Miss Peggy Lowry, a student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cox of Qio, SC. Dinner guest on Saturday, Christmas Day, in the home of Mrs. Myrtle Locklear of Red Springs were her children, and children-in-law, and grand children; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Locklear and children, Eugene Locklear, 'Mrs.. Hazel Jones and children, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Dial and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Locklear, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Licklear and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy F. Locklear, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Locklear and son, Mr. Jimmy Locklear, Mr. Pat Ixicklear and Mr. Martin Locklear. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McMil- lian and family of Route 1, Rowland and Mr. Teddy Jacobs of Pembroke, visited Monday night in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Chavis of Bennettsvilie, SC. Mr. and Mrs. Bazie Hardin of Welton Street were visited during the Christmas Holidays by their sons, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Hardin and Mr. and Mrs. Benford Hardin and daughters, Alicia Joy and Christie joy, all of Chapel Hill, and Mr. James Shook of Brevard. Benford and his family spent several days visiting in the home of Mrs. Hardin’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Shook and family of Brevard. The Hardins were accompanied to Pembroke by Mr. Shook where he joined in a rabbit hunt with his son-in-law Benford Hardin, and his fa ther, Mr. Bazie Hardin and Mr. John Locklear. A song service was held Sunday at the Pembroke Church of God. Singing groups that attended and participated were Mr. Ricky Strickland and his singers from the Bakers Chapel Baptist Church. A duet was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Demery, and a solo by Mr. Neill Frazier. The Oxendine children sang. There was a quartet from the Sandy Grove Church, a solo by Mrl“ Vardell Sanderson from the Baptist Tabernacle, and solos by Miss Wanda Ranson and Rev. Dewayne Cummings of the Saddletree Church of God, and the Glory Road Quartet from the hostess church. The pastor is Rev. Jack Hunt. Dinner guest on Saturday, Christmas Day, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McMillian and family were Mrs. McMill- ian’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Uless Locklear. A gift of money was donated Sunday to the Pembroke Church of God in honor of their birthdays by Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Locklear and Mrs. Zula Mae Jacobs. The Men’s Fellowship of the Pembroke Church of God furnished a silver dollar to each Sunday School member who had not missed a Sunday from church in six months. Tuesday night guests in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Steve Jones were Mr. and Mrs. J. Ben Hardin of Chapel Hill and Mr. Knox Chavis of Pine Lake Estates.
