Airy News Mr. Chester Hunt left Sun day for his Morris Heights, New York home after spending several days visiting in the home of his mother, Mrs. Annah Hunt of the De6p Branch community and many other relatives and friends. visited in the first part of the week by his daughters. Mrs. Libby Sue Cox of Clio, SC and Miss Peggy Lowry of Chapel Hill. Mrs. Alford Maynor and Mrs. Carlee Hunt spent Mon day visiting in Chapel Hill. Daryle Deese has returned from Duke Hospital of Durham where he had heart surgery. He was hospitalized for seve ral weeks. He returned to the home of Mrs. Lilliam McGirt where he is now making his home. Daryle was an over night guest Monday night in the home of his aunt. Mrs. Edith Locklear and children. Mrs. Locklear is in due to injuries she received in a car accident. Mrs. Grace Hunt has retur ned to her home from South eastern General Hospital where she was a surgery patient for a few days. Mrs. Hunt is the wife of Rev. Jack Hunt who is pastor of the Pembroke Church of God, A gift of money was donated Sunday at the Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church by Mr. and Mrs. Seddrick Jacobs in honor of their daughter, little Miss Sandra Jacobs for her sixth birthday and Mrs. Louise Locklear. Please remember the sad and lonely and the sick and shut-ins in your prayers. BIBLE THOUGHT Mr. J. Ben Hardin, of Chapel Hill, spent a long weekend visiting in the home of his parents Mr, and Mrs. Bazie Hardin and his brother Mr. Bazie Hardin,Jr. James l-!l2 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: For when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of Life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.’ Mrs. Avemer Bullard spent the past weekend visiting in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McKenly of Myrtle Beach, SC. Mrs. Randolph Eddings has been in several days due to having phlebitis in her leg. Mrs. Macie Chavis Dial of Maxton died Thursday at Scotland Memorial Hospital of Laurinburg after a lengthy illness. The funeral service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Gray Pond Baptist Church of Scotland County. Officiating ministers were the Rev. T. M. Swett and the Rev. Jimmy Strickland. Burial followed in the Stuartsville Cemetery. Attending from the Pembroke area were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Harding, Mr. Thomas Chavis, and Mr. Ronnie Elk. Mrs. Dial was the daughter of the late Mr. Archie Chavis and Mrs. Lizzie Jones Chavis. Todd Jones, son of Mrs. Barbara Jones,and a second grade student at Pembroke Elementary School in the classroom of Mrs. Rose Lock lear. was in a few days the past week due to having a virus. Braves Back On Winning Track -by Violet Locklear- Men’s Day was observed on Sunday morning at Mt. Airy Church. Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. after which the Brotherhood rendered special music. The speaker of the hour was Rev. Sanford Locklear who offered a challenge for the year of 1977. Thru worship service the pas tor chose four men who told of some of their experinces while being Christians and what it means to them. The first speaker was Mr. Alton Ray Haggins. Second was Mr. Kenneth Hunt. Third speaker was Mr. Roy LacyCummings, and fourth speaker was Mr. Delton Brewer. Each speaker had different 'e^ebiences which everyone, Ithrnk, really enjoyed. We then observed the Lord’s Supper and Mr. R. D. Locklear closed with a song, “Touching Jesus.’’ CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Mrs. James Lee Lowery of Pembroke celebrated her Wth birthday Sunday. Her neice, Mrs. Woodrow (Evelyn) Cummings, prepared her a wonderful dinner which she is accustomed to doing for her aunt every year. Mrs: Lowry called to say how she really enjoyed everything, We hope Mrs. Etta many more happy birthdays to come. The guest speaker Sunday at the Rock of Bethlehem Baptist Church was the Rev. Frank Jacobs. Miss Tracy Lynn Maynor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby R. Maynor, was an overnight guest Friday night in the home of a friend. Miss Rohm Lockear. daughter of Mrs. Essie D. Locklear of Weiton Street. A winter revival will begin Sunday at the Rock of Beth lehem Baptist Church with service at 7 o’clock p.m. Sunday night and at 7:30 p.m, throughout the week. Special singing will be furnished each night. The guest speakers will be the Rev. Larue Barton of Maxton and the Rev. Jimmy Dial. The public is invited to atend all of these services. Mr. and Mrs. David Ross Franklin, Sr. of Richmond, Virginia, announce the birth of a son David Ross, Jr. who weighed seven pounds and five ounces and was 18 and ‘/* inches long when bom Decem ber 29th at 7:12 a.m. at the Medical College Hospital of Richmond, Virginia. David Ross, Jr. is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Victor E. Caudle. Mrs. Caudle is mak ing her home in Pembroke and Mr. Caudle is of Richmond, Virginia where he is employ ed. David Ross, Jr. paternal grandparents are Mrs. Ronk and Mr. David W. Franklin, and his great grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lewis J. Caudle all of Richmond, Virginia and the late Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Smith of Pembroke. PEMBROKE — Pembro ke State’s Braves turned in one of their best per formances of the season Wednesday night, hitting 61,5 per cent of their shots iin the second half in running up a 20-point lead and then repulsing a Coastal Carolina rally for an 81-64 victory. The triumph snapped a three-game win streak by Coastal Carolina and evened Pembroke's record at 8-8. Coastal Carolina is 13-6. “It was probably our best defensive game (tf the sea son.” said Coach Joe Galla gher of the Braves. "We needed a good game and got it in playing about five different d^enses.” Leading Pembroke’s scorers was Graham with 24 points. Jessup was high for Coastal Carolina with 24. A group of the Women’s Adult Class, along with their teacher, Mrs. Stella Hardin Oxendine, joined together and went to the Old Foundry in Lumberton for a luncheon. Membership is awarded an nually to Nationwide agents who achieve high standards in sales and service. Locklear has been a Nationwide agent in Lumberton since 1974. Miss Lizzie Bell Locklear returned home from the hos pital and is doing fine. The singing for the second Sunday night in February will be cancelled due to the weather and because so many are already sick. Mr. Johnnie Lowry returned home Tuesday of the past week from Southeastern Gen eral Hospital of Lumberton where he was a patient for a week. He spent part of that time in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. Mr. Lowry was suffering from a heart prob lem. He is reported to be improving satisfactorily at his home as of Tuesday. He was Attending and participating in a song service held Sunday night at the Pee Dee Chapel Baptist Church of Clio, S.C. were: Mrs. Vashti Sampson, Mrs Mary C. Locklear, Mrs. Pauline Deese, Mrs. Gladys Locklear, Mrs. Margaret Ann Locklear, and the Rev. Purcell Swett. Also making the trip were Miss Regena Deese, Mr. Alester Sampson, and Mr. Fred Deese. Weekend guests of Mrs. Barbara Jones and children were Mrs. Mildred Powell and daughter Miss Ann Pittman, and Miss Debra Mullins alt of Richmond. Virginia. While here the guests along with their hostess, Mrs. Jones, visited: Fayetteville and South of the Border. The group reports they had a very enjoyable day together. COASTAL CAROLIMA 0-1 0-] 1 0 0-1 CM) 1 0 0-3 0-0 3 0 :i-u »■» » M A special offering for one hundred and twelve dollars was taken up for Mrs. Sheryl Bullard Davis, 19, of Lumber- ton who is a patient in Baltimore, Md. undergoing a bone marrow transplant for a rare blood disease. She is receiving blood from her hus band and her father. Her platelet donor is her mother and her brother who is giving her bone marrow. She was operated on Monday. The doctors have informed the parents that if that operation is not successful, her life span would only be probably from six to twelve months. The family is asking for everyone's prayers. Mr. John L. Carter, our superintendent, became ill Saturday while attending church services. I was very worried, but when I called and he was better, 1 was uplifted. He is a man who stands out in my life. Mrs. Rockie J. Locklear is spending this week in the home of her daughter, Violet. She was visited on Tuesday by Mrs. Cora Macy Jones of Pembroke and others. Mrs. Locklear at this time is doing good. Mrs. Ruby Jones and son and daughter spent the week end in Monroe, NC and attended the wedding of her daughter, Teresa, last Sunday. Mrs. Louie (Stella) Locklear is still confined to her home due to illness. She hasn't been able to attend church in a long time, and many more. Please remember them all in your prayers.
