Visitors were Mrs. Susan Locklear, Mr. Kawyse Wilkins also Mrs. Carrie Paulk, for merly of Ocilla, Ga. who is now making her home down here. She is the mother of Mr. Gene Paulk. Mrs. Violet Locklear, Mrs. Martha Ann Locklear, also Mrs. Alice Cummings, went to McCain Hospital last Thurs day for a check up. While there they visited Mr. Philip Jones who is a patient there. As of yet we are unaware of Mr. Jones’ condition. Dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Buck Locklear on Monday night were Mr. Gene Locklear and his girlfriend. Miss Dianca Cimmorrusta, of San. Diego, California, also his mother, Mrs. Catherine Locklear, Mrs. Goldie Lowery and Mr. and Mrs. Furnie Barton and dau ghter. Gene left Tuesday morning to take his girl friend back to California. She had flown down here last Wednes day to spend some time with the Locklears. THE BPW FOUNDATION Since its founding in 1919, the National Federation has worked to expand educational opportunities for women and to support research on working women’s problems and poss ible solutions. In 1956, to meet the need for increased activity in these areas, the Federation established the Foundation as a tax-exempt educational cor poration to serve all working women. progress of employed women, Research grants enable scho lars to study the world’s career women, and fellowships are awarded by the Foundation graudate study. The newest scholarship, the Career Ad vancement Scholarship, per mits women to continue their education or training so they will be eligible for employment or will be prepared for advance ment in a business or profes sion. Other activities include seminars and conferences. A portion of each BPW member’s dues goes to the Foundation’s support. Other financial support comes from bequests, contributions, grants, gifts of property and life insurance, and legacies. The Career Advancement Scholarships of the bpw Foun dation are the only nationwide scholarship program for work ing women. Businesses and Foundations contribute to the scholarship fund. The Career Advancement Scholarship has had a popular reception among working women who need additional training for a job, for a new career, or to qualify for a promotion. There are other scholarships also for graduate study. During the past 5 years, 1,194 women have received scholarships to taling $323,840. Considerable research, plan ning, organization, and dedi cation are required. A special program was given by the Boy Scouts Sunday under the direction of their leaders, Mr. Gene Paulk and Mr. Rencil P. Locklear. They received different bad ges for thqir work and achie vement. We certainly are proud of our boys and the work they are doing. Mr. Harvey D. Jones visited his grandmother, Mrs. Rockie Jane Locklear Sunday eve ning. He has been hospitalized three times lately due to a pistol wound. She was also visited by Mr. James H. Locklear, Mr. Roy Hunt and more relatives and friends. The Foundation library fills requests for up-to-date infor mation on work'.ng women. A unique tape collection records the voices of prominent wo men. A bibliography is pub lished yearly on various sub jects affecting working wo men. Periodic surveys deter- mine the problems and the Mr. Morand Tyner has been a patient in Southeastern General Hospital due to third degree burns. His condition is improving. In September 1973, the National Business and Profes sional Women’s Foundation developed the Career Aware ness ftoject funded by the Carnegie Corportaion to link school counseling and career gudiance more closely to the real world of work.
