THE BPW FOUNDATION
Since its founding in 1919,
the National Federation has
worked to expand educational
opportunities for women and
to support research on working
women’s problems and poss
ible solutions. In 1956, to meet
the need for increased activity
in these areas, the Federation
established the Foundation as
a tax-exempt educational cor
poration to serve all working
women.
progress of employed women,
Research grants enable scho

women, and fellowships are
awarded by the Foundation
graudate study. The newest
scholarship, the Career Ad
vancement Scholarship, per
mits women to continue their
education or training so they
will be eligible for employment
or will be prepared for advance

seminars and conferences.
A portion of each BPW
member’s dues goes to the
Foundation’s support. Other
financial support comes from
bequests, contributions,
grants, gifts of property and
life insurance, and legacies.
The Career Advancement
Scholarships of the bpw Foun
dation are the only nationwide
scholarship program for work
ing women. Businesses and
Foundations contribute to the
scholarship fund. The Career
Advancement Scholarship has
had a popular reception among
working women who need
additional training for a job,
for a new career, or to qualify
for a promotion. There are
other scholarships also for
graduate study. During the
past 5 years, 1,194 women
have received scholarships to
taling $323,840.
Considerable research, plan
ning, organization, and dedi
cation are required. Additional
information may be obtained
by writing to:

Non-voters
“Are you going abroad
this summer?" one con
stituent asked his con
gressman. "No," he re

of traveling around among
people who don’t speak my
language and who couldn’t
vote for me even if they
did!”
