Just before the ending of the third to it as far as Pembroke State University,” said Jones, referring to MacLean’s dependability and faithfulness to PSU. In his acceptance remarks, MacLean said it “was a privilege to introduce the bill that made PSU a university. But I really didn’t think it was going to be what it is now — not that fast. This is now — in this short of time — a great university . . . and one that is recognized. It has a reputation of competence. I’m happy to have had a small part in trjdng to do something to add to that stature.” Purnell Swett, chairman of the PSU Board of Trustees and also assistant superintendent of Robeson County schools, presented the plaque to Mrs. Epps who he said is “a close friend of mine professionally. Her late hushed was my mentor In school administration. As problems occurred, I went to him for counsel.” Swett listed the many honors won by Mrs. Epps, including being “currently president of the Pembroke Busindss Women’s Association and a member of the Board of Directors of “Strike At The Wind”. It is a privilege to present to you. Mis. Epps, the Distinguished Alumnus Award.” Mrs. Epps described the award “as Ae most significant recognition I’ve ever received for two reasons: (1) the people who made the decision are part of this county and are associated with this community (her own people); and (2) because of my love for this institution because of what it has meant to me in the past.” She told of the days when Old Main housed both the high school and the Normal School. In the latter, students obtained a two-year diploma and thus a “B” teaching certificate. She earned her own 4-year degree and an “A” certificate In 1942 after returning to Pembroke State. “Had it not been for this institution. I’m sure that neither 1 nor any of my brothers and sisters would probably had anything beyond a high school education. Not because our parents were not interested, but because of money or lack of money. If we could have gotten the money, I don’t know where we would have gone at that time — out of the state most likely because of the ethnic group which I’m a part of. So I have a tender spot in my heart for this Institution. Most of us have had doors opened to us because of this institution and what it offered to us in preparation.” Also presented a plaque in recognition of his services to PSU was Bob Maxwell, cafeteria manager at PSU who is being moved to a new area in a promotion by Saga Food Services. Wayne Bailey, alumni director, made the presentation. According to Scripture Evanij?iist Ted Brooks Box 339 Pembroke. N.C. 28372 DELIVERANCE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST Exodus 14:10 “And Moses said unto the people, fear not. stand still and see the salvation of the Lord which he will show you today. ” I MocLEAN (right) of of the Pembroke Stote chancellor of PSU, of the spring on is presented the University Alumni Assodorion alumni meeting. A 1" English E. Jones. When Pharaoh drew near the children of Israel lifted up their eyes and saw pharaoh coming and they began to cry unto Moses and said they wished they had stayed in the land of bondage and died. But God had already told Moses where to put the children of Israel that was between Migdoi and the sea over against Ba’al-ze’phon. When Pharaoh saw the people he thought they were entangled in the land and the wilderness had them shut in. Pharaoh saw the people and again he went forth to capture them so God took the angel which was leading the Israel people. He put him behind so that the light of darkness would blind Pharaoh and his people. And they would cease to follow Moses and his people. This is where Moese said to his people, “Stand still and see the Lord shall light your battle and ye may keep your peace. ” Verse 14. Satan is and has vomited out aji his filfth I visit people everyday, who Satan is trying to steal their vision, Some even had strong headaches where they can’t think of God or read the word of God. There are so many kinds of sicknesses that man can’t name them all. But I remember what David said in Psalms 107:13 They cried unto the Lord in their trouble. If you are in trouble or vour loved ones are sick, then cry unto the Lord. David said he brought them outof darkness and the shadow of earth and Christ broke their bands asunder. Why? You ask. Read Verse 15. Oh that men would praise the Lord. So many of us today are like the children of Israel. We are on the run from one doctor to another, from one hospital to another. If it is not one sickness, it is another. When we ask man to help all he can say is, “learn to live with it. ’’ If it were his sickness, he too would run to and fro. Preachers today will say. “bear it. Learn to be like Paul or John.” But then again, he doesn’t have your pain and hurts. But I say as Moses, “Stand still and see the salvation of Jesus Christ.” The Bible tells of ten lepers who came to Jesus for healing. After he healed them all, only one returned to give thanks. Why don’t you ask God for help then after you have asked, stand on his holy word and say. “God, 1 believe every word which came out of the mouth of your son Jesus and this day 1 claim healing in the name of Jesus,” Then the gates of bronze will be broken. Doubt has been replaced by faith. Now wait for he will send his word. His word is his son Jesus and you shall be delivered from your sickness. He can do it, He is the same God that maketh the storm calm so that the waves thereof are still. Proverbs said when there was no depths, Jesus said I was brought forth before the mountain were settled before the hills were. The Bible tells me that God is a man of war and the Lord is his name. When the children of Israel were following Moses, they came to water which was so bitter theycould not drink it, And Moses cried unto God and God showed him a tree and told him to cast the tree in the water and the water became sweet. These people followed God and in his path they were led to water which was bitter. We today follow ChrLst as an example ofhim. And we likewise sometimes suffer. But. thank God, through his blood, the cross and the stripes which were given, we can be healed. There is no need for you to try and drink bitter water. There is no need to run to and fro. Jesus said to ask and it shall be done. Where two or three are gathered in his name and agree and touch, t shall be given to them for Jesus the midst of you. We arc living in a time when God's son Jesus has always been. He even gave the sea its decree that the waters could not pass his commandment. Now you say you believe he can’t still heal his people. God said 1 have loves those who love me and those who seek me early shall find me. Proverbs 8:17. Seek him and ye shall find him. The Bible tells of a season when an angel would go down to this place and trouble the water and whosoever was first to step in was made well. But there was one who was unable to get in until Jesus came by, The word tells me he was sick for 38 years. When Jesus came by and saw him lying there he knew he had been there a long lime. How long have you waited for the moving of the water? Jeus has already said that he was the light of the world and as long as he is in the world he would be the light. Claim yours in the name of Chirst our Lord Jesus. Our Lord is a healer and a deliverer. Not only that he is the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world. He is the life and the life was the light of men. For this man Christ the very same was in the beginning with God and all things were made by him. So. ask and be delivered in the power of God Almighty. impossible to get along with Richard Hatch, his new Streets of San Francisco co-star, so he’s considering quitting the series if ABC renews. “Richard and 1 have tried, really tried, but so far we haven’t managed to get a good relationship going,” reveals Malden. “It’s like a basketball team, Iguess,” heexplains. “You have a team working together for five years, and when suddeniv. there’s a new man, naturally it means a disruption. It’s been difficult for him and difficult for me-I don’t know whether it shows on screen.” It might. Ratings have plummeted since Hatch replaced Michael Douglas on the series. And Malden claims the stories have been getting worse too. "It used to be that the plots were analytical,” he asserts. “Now it’s become a lot of shooting and killing for no reason.” Although Malden stars on a police show, he’s strongly against television violence and is a staunch supporter of gun control. “I think all guns should be left in something like an armory,” he declares. “People who want to go hunting would check them out. They would come and clean them or do anything else they want with them, but they would never be able to take them home. I make a point of using and showing my gun as little as possible on the show.”...Cher and Mick Jagger’s wife Bianca are social enemies and refuse to talk to each other.
