Baptist Church

members of the church, as well as officials of the Lumber River Baptist Association recently.
The new structure will replace the present wood structure which was probably erected in 1883.
According to records, the church was established in that year. The site is located on Route 4,
Lumberton, off highway 72 in the Moss Neck section of the county. Rev. Franklin Wooten,
church pastor, is shown above doing the honors with the shovel asmembers of the churchand
visitors look on. Present for the occasion were: Rev. E.B. Turner, Moderator of the Lumber
River Baptist As.sociation; Rev. J.A. Thompson^ secretary of the association; L.W. Pipkin,
chairman of the deacon board and treasurer; Clarence Thomp.son|»David Thompson, David
Chapel, and Osbern Thompson, all deacons; Celesta .McArthur and Ernest Liles, board of
tru.stees members. Other members in attendance were Mrs. Ernestine Thompson, Mrs.
Franklin Wooten, Mrs. Maggie Pipkin, Mrs. Mary McLean, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Nettie
Liles, Mrs. Margaret McKoy, Ms. Patsy Pipkin, Mrs. Louise McLean, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell
