Mr. Tenel Si upon was honored Monday with a family dinner given by
his mother. V I. Henry F. Smith and held at her home. Among those
attending and vishing Mr. Sampson a happy 27th birthday were Ms
Connie Hunt, Irs Janice Jones, and Mr. Webster Smith.
Mr. Thorna; "Man" Chavis entered Southeastern General Hospital
Sunday and riderwent surgery Monday. Mr. Chavis is reportedly
improving.
Mr. Billy D< n Revels and his son. Mr. Billy Dean Revels. Jr.. returned
late Sundav vening from Smithfield. Virginia where they went by
ambulance, b nging back the body of Mr. Joseph Drake Cummings. 31,
to Revels Fun ral Home in Pembroke. Mr. Cummings was killed instantly
in a head-one rcollision about six o'clock p.m. Saturday. He is the son of
Mr. and Mr? Joseph Cummings of Elkton, Maryland, formerly of
Pembroke. H maternal grandparents arc Mr and Mrs. J.F. Oxendine
Mr. Ernest \ 'ilkins of Detroit. Michigan is visiting in the home of his
aunt. Mrs. Atje Bell Lowry in the l.umherton area; and his cousin. Mrs.
Ivene Chavis Of Godwin Street
A song service was held Sunday night at the Oak Grove Holiness
Church. Atteading and participating in the service were Mr. Ernest
Wilkins of Detroit. Michigan. Mrs. Ivene Chavis. Mrs Nora Bell
Graham and Mrs. Cathem Graham. The pastor is the Rev. Grover
Oxendine.
Mrs. Mary Dial of Lincoln Park, Michigan is visiting in the home of her
sister and herfamily, Mr and Mrs. Alton Locklear And her niece and her
family. Mr. and Mrs Bobby Maynor, and other relatives.
Mrs. Gloria Gates and son Micheal of Chapel Hill spent the past
weekend visiting with her mother, Mrs. Berna Barton, and her
grandmother. Mrs Ada Locklear of Pine Street, and other relatives.

where they spent some time visiting with their son. Mr Bobby Bell.
Mr. Robert Revels entered Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinhurg

Among the visitors who attended church Sunday at the morning service
at Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church were Mr and Mrs Bruce
Barton and family. Mrs. Bema Barton. Mrs Connie Brayboy and
children. Mr. Garry Barton, and Mrs. Gloria Gates and son. Micheal of
Chapel Hill.
Mrs. Buster Burke and Mrs. Leonard Chavis. members of the Visitation
Committee of Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church, visited the past
week in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Paul, and Mrs Henry Henry
Wilkins. Both Mrs. Wilkins and Mr. Paul have been in for some time due
to illness.
Sunday. March the 11 th was observed at Mt. Olive Pentecostal Holiness
Church in honor of the founder's day of the Woman's Auxiliary. The
ladies of the society were in charge of the morning service They sang
their theme song. "Working and Serving.'' Each member was presented a
corsage in the W.A. colors, gold and purple, made of flexi lace by Mrs.
Jean Chavis and her daughter. Mrs. Jeannie Jacobs and presented to the
members by three of the G.A. girls: Miss Tina Maynor. Miss Kimberly
McCartney and Miss Rhonda Maynor. and two other G.A girls: Miss
Winnie Faye Maynor and Miss Lisa Jane Lowry taking the offering. The
purpose of th^auxiliary is to promote the spirituality and welfare of the
home, the church, and the community. The president. Mrs. Helen Faye
Locklear. introduced the .speaker. Mrs. Jettie Parker of Sanford
She spoke on tmity and togetherness. She also discussed making known
the deeds of God among His people. Mrs. Parker served as a missionary
for 19 years in Africa. Mrs. Christine Burke was voted 'Woman of the
Year' by the Auxiliary members. She received a gift certificate at
Belk-Hensdale Department Store in Lumbertonalong with a bouquet of
flowers in gold and purple colors. Prayer was offered by Mr. Bruce
Barton, editor of Th* Carolina Indian Voice The gold and purple
arrangment of flowers was furnished by the W A.'s ladies of the church.

Mrs. Percy Brooks spent the weekend visiting in the home of her
daughter and her family. Mr and Mrs. Charles Edward Hunt of Charlotte
Mrs Brooks went at this time and attended part of the Winter Revival held
at the 3Mh Street Church of God in Charlotte The guest speaker for the
week was the Rev. Millard Maynard. The pastor is the Rev Roy lee
Tucker. former pastor of the Saddletree Church of God

Kiwanis Hear About
Croft Metal Co.

Lumber Bridge was the guest
speaker at the Tuesday even
ing meeting of the Pembroke
Kiwanis Club. He was intro
duced by Lankford Godwin,
program chairman, who is an
employee of that company.
Mr. Rabom is a native of
Louisiana and became associ
ated with the Croft Metal
Company 17 years ago. The
company is owned by Mr.
Brancroft who is now 76 years
old and still active in the
business.
In 1975 Croft came to
Lumber Bridge. The alumi
num operation employs about
800 people and expansion is
planned which would include a
new parking facility for trailer
traffic and 30,000 more square
feet of manufacturing space.
Since the opening the pre
sent plant four years ago the
total growth has been 256
percent and the annual payroll
approximately 5 million doll
ars. It is a self-contained
company with distribution cen
ters throughout the South. All
three races of the County are.
equally represented in its
employees as well as equal
representation of both sexes.
The company manufactures
and sells a complete line of
aluminum building materials.

Croft Metal has also opened a*
new facility in Fair Bluff which
emplbys 80 people at the
present time and is growing.
This facility is a satellite of the
Lumber Bridge plant. The
Company welcomes visitors to
tour the Lumber Bridge facility
and arrangements can be
made by calling or writing the
Company in advance.
At the business meeting
following the Speaker. Miss
Vicky Walter spoke concerning
the Robeson County Special
Olympics Meet for the men
tally and physically handi
capped children of the County.
The County Meet will be held
on March 30 with winners
moving on to the Area and
National meets. Kiwanis Club
members contributed S23
which they presented to Miss
Walter.
John Rimberg presented the
Humanities Planning Applica
tion to Club members. This
application will be sent to the
North Carolina Humanities
Committee by the Pembroke
Kiwanis Club for the Commit
tee's consideration.
Presiding at the evening
meeting was Club President
Ed Teets. Song leader was

by Ira Pate Lowry, pianist. The
Rev. Ray Sparrow delivered
the invocation.

grandslam homerun to open
up a 8-1 lead Ibr the Warriors.
HaDsboro never recovered
from that shot although they
did manage to score a run in
the top of the fifth.
Kelvin's homerun was the
first of the year fw toe
Warriors. But it is not only his
batting prowness that has
made him valuable to the
team. His feet are not made of
lead and Kelvin hw used this
to his advantage with aggres
sive baserulining. In the War
riors' 4-3 win over Lumberton
last Wednesday, it was Kelvin
who scored from third base
with the winning run on Bobby
Taylor's sacrifice fly to shallow
rightfield.
Not to be overlooked are his
defensive talents. He is most
adept in centerfieid. stealing
sure hits on with running 1
catches and on one occasion, a
diving catch.
Pembroke Senior High is
fielding a relatively young
team this year. With the
leadership abilities shown by
Kelvin Sampson and the other
seniors on the squad, the
Warriors should do well in the
tough 3-Rivers Conference.
