Ervin Oxendine of Route 4,
Fairmont died Thursday mor
ning at his home after a short
illness, he was 65 years old.
He leaves to mourn his
passing: one brother, Hessie
Oxendine; three sisters- Ad
die Oxendine, Willie Lee Deal
and Miss Mancy Oxendine, all
of Fairmont and a host of
relatives and friends.

tie Bell Jones Strickland were
held Friday, June 1, at St.
Anna Baptist Church with the
Rev. Richard Simmons, the
Rev. Eudene Locklear and the
Rev. Jimmy Strickland offici
ating. Burial followed in the
church cemetery.
Mattie Bell Jones Strickland
was born April 15, 1912 and
departed this life May 29, 1979
at the age of 67. Survivors
include seven sons: Wayne C.
Jonesof Detroit, Mich.; An
drew Strickland of Ft. Rucker,
Ala.; Kenneth Strickland of
Ann a dale, Va.; Jeffery, Harris
and J.P. Strickland, Jr. of
Pembroke; and Larry Jones of
Lumberton; four daughters:
Jessie M. Locklear. Nancy C.
Strickland, Margie Cummings
all of Pembroke and Mary
Alice Chavis of Lumberton;
one step daughter, Martha

Jayoee Building. Host for the
event were Mr. Earl Hunt, Mr.
Glenn Thomas Hunt, and Mr.
Curtiss Carlyle Hunt, sons of
the couple.
A dinner was served to
apporximately one hundred
and fifty guests with a cake
cutting ceremony following at
2:oo p.m. The cake was served
by Ms. Lynneettah Jacobs and
Ms. Katie Hunt.
During the ceremony. Rev.
Glassie Locklear, and Rev.
Harvey Brewington comment
ed about the couples long
lasting union and faithfulness
to the church of Mt. Moriah.
Also in attendance was Miss
Doris Hunt, daughter of the
couple. Children unable to
attend were; Mrs. Shirley
Kimble of New York, Mr.
Micheal Hunt of New York,
and Ms. Janie Sherrod of
Lumberton. The couple was
married on June 3,1929 in the
Dfllkm Marriage Chapel. Bosn
to the union were nine children I
seven of which are living. I
