Ms. Marine Bollard, says farewell. _J i I guess every girls dreams, in her early childhood, of one day wearing a crown. One year ago the most predominant goal in my life was to become Miss Lumbee. New, because of the faith and hard work of so many people, I have realized that igoal, lived out a dream, and ready fo begin anotherr phase of my life. During the past year my reign as Miss Lumbee has been a learning and unfocget able experience. I have deve loped increased self- confi dence through such experien ces as representing the Lum bee people in various pageants over the state and making personal appearances here in the county. Some of the most enjoyable opportunities I have had while holding this title have been meeting and shar ing in the love and friendship of my people right here at home, h was with great pride that I represented such won derful people in the Miss North Carolina Pageant. The jfiss^orth Caroffna Pageant was an un forge table experience, one that I enjoyed far more than I had dreamed. I can truthf illy say that I did my best for the Lumbee people; for the past year I have worked hard to bring recognition to my people. Knowing that I would hold this title for one year only, I vowed not to lose the respect and love my people held for me, but to try my best to gain more respect and love from the people whom 1 would try to be a good will ambassador for throughout my travel as I have criss-crossed North Carolina making personal appearances and performing. You, my people, have given me everything. From the bottom of my heart, I thank * you for your time, patience and tolerance of me as your Miss Lumbee. My thanks and eternal love go to those people who have given me so much of them selves to make this year possible: the Pembroke Jay cees and Jaycetts who havee aided me financially, as well as the LXDA staff and workers; to Mr. Curtis Pierce who in behalf of the Lumbee Bank presented me 46 gifts to take to the contestants of The Miss North Carolina Pageant: to Mr. Ira Pate Lowry who put in numerable hours and patience in helping me wiftjny talent, poise and speech' during my reign; to Mr. Al Dunavan who also helped prepare me for my talent competition in the Miss North Carolina Pageant, in addition to Mrs. Ira Pate Lowry; to Mrs. Florence Ran som who acted as my chaperon land companion for many untold miles; to Mrs. Alice Revels of Barbara's Unisex for devoting her time and giving me important tips on make-un: to my aunt Alice D. Dial and Mr. Delton Ray Dial for their financial support of me t r- throughout the year; to my church. Bear Swamp, for the gudiance that came through Pastor T. M. Sweet. Mr. Ernest Kay Brooks. Mr. John G. Deese. Ms. Betsy Mavnor. Mr. Nelson Dial and Ms. Etha M. Harris, mv faithful and devoted Sunday School teacher: to Mr. Kenneth - Mavnor of LRDA who helped - me make some important p decisions during the vear. tou I '''W-.i the Deoole who have sup ported me with thfctr letters., friendly smiles, cheerful hellos and friendship: to the officials of the Town of Pembroke far a beautiful "send off"; to the six most important people in my life who have shared my dream and have given me their support, understanding and love throuch haoov and sad a times, who have been patient m through this entire endeavor. T my parents, my staler MiUi cent, and my brothers Garret. Lee and Walden; and to my Heavenly Father who has been with me always and has given me courage and strength to go on when I felt like emitting. It would be impossible to thank everyone individually for there are so many who have giveii me their friendship and love. i MT.
