"Upward Bound Olympics" at RSU with schools with "Up ward Bound" programs throughout the state compet ing athletically at PSU. It is an excellent way for many youngsters to see the fine facilities of Pembroke State. Alphouo McRae is coordinat ing the "Upward Bound O Ivmpics" for the second time in three years. He is a special counselor for the PSU program and. of course, a former PSU basketball All-American. Larry Brooks, who also works with the "Upward Bound" program, reports that 75 youngsters are involved this summer. They attend classes in the mornings, work in various places on and off campus in the afternoons, and play athletics in the evenings. "We have youngsters gain ing work experience every where." says Brooks. "We have them assigned to law offices, the newspaper, drug stores, medical clinics, the veterinary hospital, child care centers, the recreation center, the rural health program, ??JStrike at the Wind," the 4 junior high recreation pro gram. etc.. and all over the campus." These are among the reasons that PSU was chosen this year by the U ,S. Office at Education as one of IS demonstration projects in the United States. A job well done! And the handsome Swett was also master of ceremonies at the recent "Miss Lumbee Beauty Pageant!" BIGGS WOK KING HARD FOR PSU FOUNDATION Farm an Biggs, the mayor of Lumberton who is a new member of the Board of Directors of the PSU Foun dation. BIG YEAR FOR BRIGITTE BRAYBOYi OTHER NOTES No one could be happier than Pembroke State Uni versity that Miss Brigltte Bray boy was named the "1980 Miss Lumbee." She had pre viously won PSU's "Miss Homecoming" title in Febru ary. At that time she said it was the first time she had ever been chosen a queen. And now another crown back-to-back. Brigitte is S feet 6 inches tall and is majoring in business administration. She is a mem ber of the illustrious Brayboy family which has meant much to PSU. The recent Jog-A-Thon at PSU raised $3,218. I wish to thank those who helped to sponsor me in that endeavor because we ranked No. 1 in the fund-raising effort.
