Also called to the scene were two sheriff's deputies and W.W. Brown, an officer with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Brown, after looking at the unusually large animal foot prints, said, "I believe it was a bear... maybe weighing somewhere in tho neighborhood of 400 pounds." Also congregating were a number of neighbors of Brayboy and onlookers. Al agreed that they would hate to meet the large animal face to face. Said one, "Whatever h was, boys, It's a largo MM " Sheriff's Deputies James Chavls and Sammy Thorndyke made a plaster mold of one of the foot prints which tended to prove Officer Brown's opinion that the tracks were made by a bear. Brown noted that few sightings have boon made of bears In Robeson County but some reports of roaming bears have boon made, especially in the Boar Swamp area. For Ae^Ttie s B us A Success Several months ago an appeal was made to the Pembroke Senior High School Community to help raise funds to pay the school's 50% on a new activity bus. The response has been almost unbelievable. Our community can be proud of this accomplishment. It indi cates that there are many parents and friends who believe that education is important and that our schools will be excellent only if we want them to be so. The fund now stands at $11,205.44. less than $800 from the initial goal. A number of solid pledges are still not in, more than enough to reach the goal. The total faculty, staff and student body at PSHS appreciates this expres sion of concern and support. We shall continue to strive to give our best to the youth in our charge.
