SENATOR WILLIAM I
PROXMIRE TO SPEAK AT I
PSU FRIDAY NIGHT i
<
When a national legisla- I
tor as well known as Sen. ;
William Piwxmire. democrat |
from Wisconsin, visits your .
campus, it is a prestigious
event for your University.
On Friday (Jan. 15) at 8
p.m. Sen. Proxmire will speak '
in the PSU Performing Arts j
Center. It will be one of the i
highlights of the PSU Lyceum *
Series season. i
Wisconsin's senior senator. I
Proxmire earned his under
graduate degree from Yale <
University and his Master's
Degree in Business Admini
stration from the Harvard
Graduate School of Business,
hie finished cum laude. He
ilso earned a Master's De
gree from Harvard in Public
\dministration.
A couple of side notes
about Sen. Prosmire: A year
or so ago. one of the major
networks did a special on his
jogging enthusiasm. He was
Ithen jogging from home to
work regularly. He has also
ireceived national attention for
hhis hair transplants.
He has a fantastic atten
dance record in answering
? a.
Senate roll call votes. Since
April. I960, he has not missed
a roll call--and there have
been only 7,000. The average
senator misses more than 500,
according to reports. The
State of Wisconsin is well
represented by Ptoxmire.
Enoch Morris, director of
the PSU Performing Arts
Center, says there will be a
special reception on stage
after Proxmire's remarks for
him and season subscribers to
the PSU Lyceum Series.
"Childhood knows the hu
man heart." Edgar Allen Poe
COMMENDATION FOR ED
"BOOTS"JACOBS
Ed "Boot*" Jacob*, a'
member of the PSU campus
police, has received a special
commendation for bravery
from the N.C. Assn. of
Campus Law Enforcement
Administrators.
Last Labor Day, Jacobs
came to the aid of the Town of
Pembroke police dispatcher
when a man had his wife and
the dispatcher at gunpoint
. d??woW?a-..
with his automatic shotgun.
The man had brought his wife
to the police station and
caught the dispatcher by
surprise.
In an effort to solve the
situation by talking to the
man, Jacobs placed his own
t'i ^ i? ** "ip
pistol on the groand to gain
the man's confidence. When
the man later reached for
Jacobs' pistol, Jacobs struck
the man, wrestled the shot
gun away and the gunman
was quickly subdued by
other police officers who had
arrived on the scene.
As the resolution stated,
"Jacobs conducted himself in
a manner demonstrative of
the highest traditions of law
enforcement officers and, be
cause of his heroism, is
deserving of the respect and
admiration of his peers and
this organizations."
