Migrant
Program
, The Robeson County School
iystem will sponsor ? Sum
ner Migrant Education Pro
irani beginning June 20 and
ending on July 30. The
program win place special
emphasis on reading and
mathematics, with music, art,
and physical education as
extra-curricular. Approxi
mately 420 children of mig
rant parents will be enrolled
in the program. During the
program, migrant children
win visit the planetarium A
other places of educational
and historical interest.
Children who participate
should meet one of the
following requirements:
1. Interstate Migrant-a child
who has moved with a parent
or guardian within the past 12
months across state boundar
ies in order that the parent,
guardian or other member of
the immediate family might
secure temporary or seasonal
employment in agriculture or
fishing activities.
2. Intrastate Migrant-A child
who has moved with a parent
or guardian within the past 12
months, across school district
boundaries within the state in
order that the parent, guard
ian, or other member of his
immediate -family might se
cure temporary or seasonal
employment in agriculture or
fishing activities.
3.Formerly MigranHFive
Year MigrantFA child who
has been an interstate or
intrastate migrant as defined
above, but who has ceased to
migrate within the past five
years and now resides in an
area in which a migrant
education project is provided
(parental consent required).
Five centers will accomo
date the migrant children:
Rex-Rennert School, Green
Grove School, Proctorville
School, Pembroke Elementary
School, and Otendine
School. Transportation will be
provided for the majority of
enrollment. Nine buses will
be used to transport the
children to and from the
centers. The children will
participate in the Summer
Meal Program under USDA of
_the School Food Services.
Twenty-three teachers will
operate the five centers with
Mr. f-urman Brewer, looroin
ator and Ms. Alice Evans.

mer Migrant Education Pro
gram. the local staff will
attend a workshop to be held
at the Bordeaux Motor Inn in
Fayetteville, from June 20-23.
Included in the sessions will
be instruction to broaden
cultural experiences of mig
rant children, and program
administrative and operating
policies.

number of college bound
athletes from Robeson County
when he signed a partial
grant-in-aid scholarship to
play at West Virginia Tech
this fall.
A 5-foot-10. 210 pound
senior, Jacobs helped anchor
Pembroke's defensive line
last fall in leading the school
to Its best-ever record of
6-2-2. Jacobs was an Ai

in his junior and senior
