The sing will feature the Gospel Singing Quartet, the Apostolic Echoes, the McNeill Quartet and the Heaven Bound Boys. The public is cordially invited to attend. ? The Carolina Indian Voice believes it is our responsiblity as citizens to vote for the candidates of our choice. In other words, in spite of what this newspaper says, or anyone else, vote for whomever you want to-but vote! To vote is, as we see it, the one freedom that sets this country apart from any other. And the vote guarantees our freedom. In that vein, we have some editorial choices, some suggestions, to make. Whether you agree with our editorial choices or not is relatively unimportant. * . -a, ? ? - ? _ . . ? ? *? _ _ out tt niiput ijuii Uib{ yon vow tot we imMrlnt ih?i j mi think will best serve you. Tbe Sheriff's race is an easy one for us to editorially comment upon. An Indian. McDuffie Cummings, is running against four white candidates. He's competent, well trained. We believe he would make a good sheriff. He's our choice, and we hope he will be yours when you go to the polls on June 29. Others in the race are Hubert Stone, the incumbent; C.A. Brown, Jr.; Jesse Britt and Luther Sanderson. There is one District Court Judge race up for grabs this year. The incumbent, John S. Gardner, the chief district court judge, is being challenged by Gary Lynn Locklear, a private attorney and, for merly, a member of the district attor ney's staff. There has been little rancor in this . race; Locklear freely admits that he * thinks highly of Gardner but, as he notes, there is only one seat. Locklear is articulate and fair. We editorially support Locklear for this important seat; all races need to bey represented on the district court bcncit. y i aii, ,i-^^ mm lti A V ? t. i ? iaitar rtrnnlfl - IAA.UvAI , r y tJoiig ITOtlTrVf i bea welcome addition to this position. We also support Edward Maultsby, a Black, over incumbent Chalmers Biggs, a white, in the Conner's race. The Hoose of Representatives is also relatively unclouded, editorially speaking for us too. Two Blacks, Sidney Locks and Frank "Bishop" McDuffie Jr. are running for the three seats as well as Bernard Lowry, a retired Indian educa tor. Those are our top choices. But we also like Danny Devane, a canddiate from Hoke County. He's a minority, in part too, even though he is white, because Hoke County cannot elect a candidate unless Robeson County elects him. The same goes for Scotland County wher^ McDuffie is from. But then we were impressed by Tommy Wellington's campaign too; and we like Tracy Britt also. But there are only three seats up for grabs. Any of the above would suit us just fine. In the Senate race we are supporting the incumbent. Sam R. Noble, over his challenger. David R. Parnell. Noble's record hi working with Indians and "ks, *s we .see it is Hotter then Parnetl's record. It's that simple for us. Some races of special interest to us are the county commissioner's race in the Pembroke-Maxton-SmHha District and the county board of education races. We are not taking a stand editorially in any of these races. It would be counter productive. In most instances Indians are running against Indians. We try out best not to make Indians mad. unless we can' not get out of it. We can get out of it in all of these contests. In the County Commissioner's race.
